I have not heard of Barra (the town) before. I will have to explore when I am in Rio as I am considering to stay there for a while.
I was in Brazil for about 6 weeks, of which two weeks was spent in Rio. I have been to Brazil before, but I am a newbie for the most part. I thought the best approach would be to just give my overall thoughts on things as that might provide more value.
Stayed in Copacabana for 14 days, had an AirBNB that was girl friendly. I had two friends with me, so the apartment was quite large. I must say that it was a struggle to find decent accommodation we paid through the nose for the place. Granted end of the year in Rio is a clusterfuck *but there were a few lessons learned. Given my tastes, I am likely to just spend a bit more and stay in Ipanema or Leblon next time. One question I have with regards to AirBNB is how frequently they are guest friendly? In future the preference would be to stay there rather than a hotel, the hotels are not great in Rio given the cost I must say. *.
I went to 4 termas - 4 x4, Solarium, Centaurus and Monte Carlo.

Have you guys used your credit or debit card at any of the big established termas. I know they say don't use them at restaurants because the servers can clone them but are termas pretty safe to use cards. I have never been ripped off. On extremely rare occasions (like once every 3 or 4 years) I might see a fraudulent charge on my account. I report it to the bank, they freeze the account, remove the charge, and I move on to different credit card until I go home. So where is the risk? There is none.
Debit cards are another story. I am very careful in the use of my debit cards. I never use them for purchases. I bring many CC's with me on a trip, but I only bring 2 debit cards. My main debit card is issued by Schwab. I only use my Schwab debit card to withdraw cash from my Schwab checking account. I only use ATM machines inside the 2 major Brazilian banks and 5-star hotels. All ATM fees and bank charges are reimbursed to my Schwab account at the end of the month. I also carry a backup debit card issued by Needham Bank (which is zero ATM fees as well) just in case something happens to my Schwab debit card like it is stolen, lost, or destroyed. Cash is for the girls and those rare situations where a CC is not accepted.

Hello guys, I'm going to Rio in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone can help out a newb. I consistently contribute to cartagena trip reports, but first time in Rio and will report back. Through basic research, I plan visit some of the famous termas (Centaurus, 4 x4, Monte carlo) and couple massge spots (RJ massage). Any comments on those?

Gents, what's the latest anyone has taken Ubers here on a regular basis? I was there last week and getting a bit stressed as it took a long time to connect with an Uber (a few tries and 15 plus minutes, couple of drivers connected and then canceled), this was Friday early morning around 1 am. I know it's not a crazy long wait in the overall scheme of things but would like to hear your experience. Only reason I ask is that is there a reason why Ubers do not want to go here? I can't remember if they offer taxi service, I'm sure they would if you got the money. I still wouldn't be sure to trust it over Uber. I did ask my Uber driver if there was a reason why cars wouldn't come there, he did say that by foot it was dangerous but he wouldn't see any issues in a car at night time. At Hilton all rooms are ocean-view, even though they show their age a little.
2. Money: got a withdrawal with a Schwab card at a Bradesco ATM in Barra Shopping at the 5. 17 and no commissions (which would be covered by Schwab anyway). Merits of Schwab debit card have been covered here on more than one occasion, but it's worth reminding, I guess.
3. SIM card: You can buy it and have it set up at the market in Centro as been reported here. You can also buy it at Lojas Americanas and set it up on the phone. However, if you're based far from Centro or your Portuguese is a little rusty, TIM store is the place to go. I stayed 10 minutes away from Barra Shopping, so it was a no brainer. You buy the card first then set it up at the store. Unlike my previous trips, this time around it was painless.
4. If you need a separate Zap account with a local number, open up WA for business (HT: Vagabundo).

Concerning "look (ing) like an idiot:" there are 3 main reasons why one might stand out with a girl at a 5 star resort like the Hyatt Barra; the age difference, the girl's appearance or dress, and her behavior in public. My 2nd thought is this: the Hyatt Barra is a great hotel on the nicest, most natural section of Praia Barra. Considering how 1st class this hotel is, the price is very reasonable. All rooms have balconies. The rooms facing the ocean are the most expensive while the rooms facing the lagoon are the least expensive, but both types of rooms have great views so unless the hoel wants to upgrade my room for free which they have done for me a few times, I don't care.
This is going to be brief. Came to Rio for 2 weeks of fun and debauchery, but had to rush back home due to a family emergency. [The only con I have concerning a stay at the Hyatt Barra is it's location in respect to mongering. It is roughly 40 minutes by Uber to 4 x4 which is not as bad as it sounds since an Uber from Ipanema to 4 x 4 is around 30 minutes, but if one is planning to fool around in Copa late at night at places like Casablanca, Kalabria, MAB's, or Dolce Vita it would be better to stay at a nearby hotel like the Marriott, the Hilton, or Windsor California. Xpartan had a good plan; stay in both areas. It is too bad he had to shorten his trip. But you are a standup guy, Xpartan, to cut your trip short on account of a "family emergency". A lot of jagoffs wouldn't.
Lastly, I am planning a little road trip with my favorite Scandallo girl whom I have known for over a year and a half. First, we are going to drive to Ilhabela and stay there for a few nights, and then we will continue up the coast to RJ where we will stay at the Hyatt. Valerie is a real nice looking, tier 2 Scandallo girl. She does not look like a pro. I can take her anywhere although there is a significant age difference. I am sure we will have a great time at the Hyatt and nobody will give us as much as 2nd glance, not that I give a damn.

In over 30 years of mongering, the only time I felt wandering hands was one night in BKK when I was walking back to my hotel at 2 am drunk on 9 or more shots of Tequila. I stopped to flirt with 2 SW's a block from my hotel. Even though I was out of it, fortunately I was aware enough to feel a hand attempting to lift my wallet from my back pocket. I stopped her just in time and she apologized. I laughed and told the 2 of them to beat it which they did. I was lucky. The moral of my story is always pay attention to your surroundings and who you allow to enter your personal space.

I went to Casablanca for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Agreed on the drinks, total rip off. 77 reias for a mixed drink like Red Bull vodka. In terms of the girls, I don't know if there was miscommunication but that $1,000 is ridiculous. I made a huge mistake of getting a room there as I thought it might be like a terma LOL, it was tiny and more like had a couch rather than a bed. Also I'm certain that there's no facility for the girls there to wash themselves, just tiny bathroom as I went in the back. Anyways lesson learnt, never get a room there. The fee to get a room there is $150 reias or you pay $200 reias to the club to take the girl outside, the lady told me whatever you decide with the girl is between you two but these prices were fixed. I'm not sure where this $1,000 reias came from, that's crazy. I wonder if they were trying to rip you off or there was miscommunication. In terms of the girls, the range was like $300 reias to $600 or so I believe depending on which girl was asking, this does not include the $150/200 you pay to the club.

Go in and scope it, have a beer, pick one or don't. I think there's a room on site but most people takeout. Also, just make a little wrist leash out of some parachute cord for your phone.

I ordered the same from Amazon. No-name brand but great quality and look. The pocket I keep my phone in gets unzipped and zipped countless times per day, now for more than three months, and has no sign of failing.
Pickpockets probably move on to easier targets. I hope.

Is there a list of pirves in Copa or that area. I'm staying in Ipanema. I know 583 and eden spa and Delirio Oriental. Two times ago when I was here about two years ago I went to centro once but I found it hard to navigate all the big business buildings to find the prives. Any suggestions? To add my two cents I did enjoy both whiskeria 65 and club New York. Any other places you would recommend.

Did you take them to the pool or the beach? Hyatt expressly asked me not to bring them to public areas. I don't see how they would enforce it, but I normally just have them for a 1 hour session so never tried anyway.
They also have rooms facing the pools, which I would consider the least desirable. I normally book oceanfront, and this time when I asked for a late checkout they moved me to a lagoon-view room in the afternoon. I was surprised how much I liked that view and the room. Very peaceful.

Oh man! After my time in India and Thailand I am so happy with being in Brazil again. I can't describe how much better it is for me here. And it's already (again) getting out of scope of this forum. I had some great time in So Paulo, even with the photoacompanhantes, and I have a list of several more to see. Then also in the smaller towns of Vale de Paraiba I had excellent experiences. And it never was the expensive options. And now in Rio I had again met some awesome girls in exactly the cheap places. Having spent time in São Paulo at both Scandallo and Casarao (see the São Paulo thread for full report) I then hit Rio. I had not been there previously.
I have to say that I am going to strongly disagree with the general wisdom of the forum on best clubs in Rio. We were not impressed with the most recommended clubs here, but rather found a gem that doesn't get much love here. Maybe we just got lucky. A caveat is that I love Brasileiras and the amazing Brasileira bunda, but prefer a slim waist vs a thick girl where possible. So this of course colors my thinking.
First stop was Monte Carlo on a Friday afternoon because it was close by. I warned my buddy (who is kinda new to this) to not expect much, given what I'the read on the forum, but we were in for a nice surprise. As a bonus, Monte Carlo also had an English speaking receptionist and a clear pricing card that explains the options.
Monte Carlo is very much like German FKK in miniature, so we got our robe and showered. The showering area is well stocked with toothbrushes razors deodorant and mouthwash. Once refreshed, we took the narrow stairs up to the bar.
It's a small narrow bar with seating on both sides and a bar at the end. The service was great from start to finish. My exuberant message was not based on, but certainly motivated by the fact that I had two really nice experiences where something seemed to have clicked. Weeks passed and things weren't improving so he sent me to a lab with a laundry list of the usual suspects to check for. Results showed it was syphilis. Yikes! At that moment I felt like a death sentence had been handed to me. Turns out though that, if given a choice between catching herpes and syphilis, choose syphilis. The first is a virus and can't be cured, only managed; the second is a bacteria and can be eradicated. If you don't catch it early it can have very dire consequences, and you can always get it again, but it's not the end of your world when detected early on.
That whole experience taught me to not go running to a doctor, who may or may not be very competent, at the first sign of a possible STD. In Colombia, and no doubt elsewhere, one can just go to a lab and order the tests without a doctor's say so. All totaled it's less than a hundred bucks at the cheaper clinics. I had something in Pattaya which was a tingling sensation. And the herpes idea came up. A test was taken, but I immediately proceeded to buy myself valacyclovir, and took it as a post-exposure prophylaxis. It probably was nothing, but better full blast on it than be sorry afterwards, because I too will prefer syphilis over HSV, HPV, and gonorrhea, syphilis is easy to treat with good old penicillin, no resistance. Syphilis was the big deal before the penicillin era, with long term progressive paralysis, etc.
Once I had an anal penetration with an at risk provider, this was sort of by accident, and not much. But after a day of worrying, I got myself the tri-valent post exposure prophylaxis and took that for a month. I'm not going to let anything burn.

Should I just go with the longest acting ones.The best of the pills is tadalafil, because it has a long term effect. You could take 5 MG per day and it probably helps you out at any time. There isn't this immediate effect, in fact, you might find that the best effect is the long lasting one after an hour.
There is another sure-fire way, for which you could visit the Doctor Instituto Cavalcanti in São Paulo and he gives you a prescription for a bimix, injection, and you go to the Flucca Pharmacia de Manipulação (or rather you contact them by WhatsApp) pass your prescription (do the highest concentration). The doctor's consultation costs 800 reais and the 5 ML bottles aren't cheap either. But effectiveness is 100%.

I will never cease to be amazed at how stupid and short-sighted women can be, especially the younger ones.Yes, in those cases it may just be they don't like you that much. With my two prospects I just came off my first date. The educated one with good family and no children, so I completed my save-a-ho mission with her by yanking her out of the place. I had messaged her Friday (against the general advice, but hey, I find weekends are difficult with the paid options, so I really wanted to try a quiet weekend with going to the beach and all. I got her to commit. Came Saturday and she said they wouldn't let her go. The thing is, just with my other sweetie, they get them on their final pay. They hold back the payment until the very end. If she wants to leave a day earlier (or even just feels bad) they don't let her go, they would not pay anything. Of course it's illegal. These places can be very abusive.
(That girl told me the boss of that one establishment, has another establishment also, believe it or not, that is such an asshole, he put his own 18 year old daughter to rent out her pussy. I mean, imagine the kind of human being who would do that, and then imagine how much of a heart he'll have for other men's daughters. And this is a true 24 hours place, I. e., you can go there any time of day or night, and they are on straight 24 hours multi day duty. Sign up for 10 days straight and they do not get out or lose their money.).
Anyway, I was insisting and ultimately paying a slightly exaggerated bar fine to get her out. Just because I really wanted the weekend to be that and not random other encounters. I am quite pumped up, because I was quite smitten by her. Her story too isn't so simple. She has two kids, and I think I found out on social media that probably the dad of her youngest died couple of years ago and she doesn't seem to be over it. So, there are real stories everywhere. They aren't all trash. I have this big heart and as you know I kind of enjoy treating them as anything between my love interest and my own daughters. I don't feel this sense of "women are oppressed so I need to rescue damsels in distress", no, because women have this amazing opportunity that guys just don't have. But then I just look for whether there is someone who is worth, who treats me well and genuine, and then I love to extend my hand.
Now what I'll do with all of those is going to be a question. But let's see how it goes today.

Should I just go with the longest acting ones.I use both Cialis and Viagra generic depending on the situation. Both work equally well with few side effects for me. Main one is bloodshot eyes. Lumify eyedrops are AMAZING for this. Forget visine and that shit. These you literally go from bloodshot to bright white in about two minutes.
I use K Health online pharmacy out of Florida and have been happy.
I use Viagra if I know I am for sure fucking one or two times in next few hours and then prob some other day later in the week and would retake then. I use Cialis when on a multi girl binge. Even tho it can last a few days I usually top up each day. But in a pinch it will def last three days no problem. If I had to choose one it would be Cialis because you don't have to time it. You could take it Sunday and not fuck till Mon or Tues.
