Unfortunately the labs are taking advantage of the situation where somebody (travelers) need a very quick turnaround time to get a test result. And to further complicate things, a lot of labs don't run tests over the weekends, so as an example if you have flight on a Tuesday you may have a problem getting a test result within the time window required by Countries requiring a PCR test within 72 hours. Hence labs are offering same day test results with the test being taken early in the morning of which they charge a ton of money as you have pointed out.Yes one lab quoted me $325.00. They advised come at 8 am and we will have your test results back at noon. That's as much as the dam flight. I mainly do my mongering in Mexico now. Living in Texas those weekend trips are a lot easier but thought about going back to Medellíand but at that price I'll wait.

I think I dodged a bullet. I almost booked an airbnb for that place since it has nice views of the city from one of the pic with good nice amenities. I read the guest policies and was turned off by it so didn't even bother to contact the host.I booked the place. The first 3 guests are free, then you have to pay 100000 COP per guest. It's stated in the house rules on the ad on AirBnb, which I didn't read when I booked. I mean, I avoided the hotel because people here told me about a sort of COVID policy, and I booked that place to be independent. Then I discover about the rules. I left after 4 days (and 4 guests), which I didn't pay for. I changed the reservation. They asked me the money for the last guest, which I didn't pay, of course. The guy at the reception was indirectly asking for a propina to not register the guests. I don't like this stuff. They authorized the change of dates, because I forced the rules. The others don't and pay. I'm no fool. Got another apartment, totally independent, with two bathrooms and all the possible amenities. Laureles Lofts is a scam, be aware.

Free tests are available, with insurance some places with 48 hour results. Other places free, but 72 hours or longer for results, not counting weekends. There's a place in Fort Lauderdale with 24 hour results for $179. They don't accept any insurance. With my schedule that seems to be my best option. Fly into Miami Friday, get the test first thing Monday then fly on to Medellin Tuesday.

At how many Americans come to Colombia to be have their freedoms limited. You are staying in Poblado and you are paying three times to five times to going rate for rent. Why would you allow anyone to tell you what you can or cannot do in an apartment that you are paying that much for? Maybe that's just acceptable for some of you guys, not me. I refuse to be anywhere that my freedoms are limited. Mongering is legal in Colombia, it may not be tolerated as much in Poblado, but I refuse to pay 5 times the going rate to be told who I can bring and cannot bring into my apartment. I am leaving soon, but what I have established is this, next year I will have a rental history, proof that I have rented an apartment in Medellin for the past year and that will give me the going rate for anywhere I want to live in Medellin. Everyone has their own preference, but don't come to board complaining about rules that you freely accept. The sooner that you put a demand on your money the sooner you will have freedoms about the places that you rent. Pollo Negro is out!

If you pay to expedited you are guaranteed the results in a particular time frame, which is good for someone with a flight to catch. Just because you got them in an hour does not mean that someone else will get them in an hour. It could be 3 days.

This post does not apply to this weekend (with curfew), but when I was in Medellin last weekend, I found two late-night options (not that there are not more):
1) Casa Blanca (White House) in Prado. It doesn't really even getting going until 2 am, but it's open earlier. Drinks, working girls (warning: most are ugly, so if you are planning to be with a working girl after, import one with you). Do NOT walk that neighborhood in the middle of the night.

My apartment needed to be put in the rental agency's name for services, so even at $312.00 I am overpaying for the rental agency assisting me in obtaining services. Every one continue to have fun and enjoy the girls, take time to find places that allow you some freedom for your American Dollar. May sound odd, but what occured recently was one of the owners rented out his apartment to a couple, and apparently the couple had parties and made noise on various occasions, and the Porteros gave them warnings, and informed them if they violated the buildings rules they would sanctioned on the third violation which was being documented by the Porteros. If it had been a card from a USA bank, the card would of been blocked after a few transactions, and regardless, the user would not be liable for fraudulent use. It's unfortunate what happened and the mistake he made was carrying the card with him outside of his Hotel but perhaps based on what transpired he didn't have the option to lock it up before going out. God forbid if the Chica had been allowed in his Hotel, he may have been missing a lot more.

I filled that same form out online but put exit. I don't think it was needed though because nobody said anything about it to me when I was leaving Colombia as they did when I was heading there.

You need to complete the same on-line form to exit as you did to enter. Obviously you are providing information on your out-going flight and destination. I had to upload my PCR test again.
The first time I went to Medellin in September, I did not do this, but the immigration officer kindly did it for me. I imagine there were more than a few people who did not do this and it probably backed up the immigration lines since. As such, my second trip a week ago, Spirit was checking that you had the form completed before they would let you get in line to check-in. I noticed that it was mostly Colombians who had not completed the form in advance. This time I was prepared.

Deadly cheap for a tourist. Reliable. Uber, Cabify, official taxis and another app I don't remember the name, they all work great. If you don't speak Spanish, this is more difficult. For a gringo, new to Colombia, without a solid grasp of Spanish, sticking to the gringo zones is a better option. Staying in a building with security is also a safer option.
If you're in the gringo zones, you're more likely to find someone who can advise or accompany you while you learn your way around. And the building security, while not foolproof adds to your peace of mind.

But if the host check on you, because it's living there, then you better find another place. Usually AirBnb is ruling in favor of the buyers, like eBay. So if a rule is not part of the house rules, then it should apply to you. And if it does, you can search for another place and change the dates of your stay. At Laureles Factory I violated the rules and I didn't pay for my guests, then I changed apartment. If you are a pain in the ass, they will agree to change dates and you will not use any money, because they want to get rid of you. If they do not agree, you will continue to violate the rule, bringing guests to your place. In the worst case scenario you will get a bad review on AirBnb, but that didn't occur to me. Just be polite and do not make too much noise.

Some AirBnB listings will explicitly state "visitor friendly" while some will say "No Sex Tourism" aka boring as f. My current building has porteros but I haven't even come close to getting cockblocked but I grease the wheel a bit by tipping and bringing snacks and gifts for the porteros. Personally, I would avoid the listings run by pseudo-agencies like Laureles Factory Lofts. See, there is a reason if travellers from Colombia in previous 14 days are NOT allowed to enter Italy and Schengen, period, with or without quarantine, PCR tests, whatever.Doesn't make sense that the Government would drop a testing requirement that really doesn't cost them anything to manage like they have been doing. I have to assume they are desperate for tourists. And as far as other Countries not wanting travellers from Colombia like in Europe, the State of New York requires testing before entering the state, and testing again after three days for all whether it be travellers from within the USA or abroad. Again, it kind of defy's logic that Colombia would drop their testing requirement.

In Cali go to the Official fancy Claro store. They will give you sin card. Then go to grocery store big chain or family-owned Whichever is closest. AsK the cashier for a cell phone recharge. They will ask for your number and the recharge amount. Then waits a minute until the recharge arrives with SMS confirmation. Then open the browser type Claro and hopefully you can figure out how to navigate to the Claro store. There you can buy a package like 3000 for SMS and Internet and phone call minutes for 3 days. Purchase package. They have all sorts of packageS. Then wait 5 minutes and you will receive confirmation your packages activated. If it is different in med than in Cali someone can tell you about it here on the forUm.

Man lleras park is basically back to normal operation. The clubs are open, the girls are out there. I went to Lleras park night club and they had some nice second tier girls. Great music is played there.

I'm heading down to Colombia this week and was wondering if I can get a prepaid SIM card for my old unlocked Samsung phone.
