There are two types of white taxis for hire at the Airport. In respect to colectivos, I think Surfer500 is mistaken in his post referenced above. To quote from the Medellin Guru piece:

For the budget conscious, I think its a good option to the bus (they leave much more frequently--as soon as they have 4 or 5 passengers.
My top four in my line-up in no particular order:
1. Sacalero's (glue sniffer's) - Anything goes!

Typically when I arrive I've been on a red eye, and trying to save Pesos and having to transfer is just not worth it to me.
I just pay the 80,000 K, and in around 30 minutes I'm at my place. However, the cost savings of using a collectivo will cover the cost of a SW in Centro, and for some on a limited budget it makes perfect sense to use the collectivo. And paying the driver to continue on to Laureles was a good move, you basically got to your place for 1/2 price.

All of the clubs I've been to have had the same basic rules. The payment at the door covers admission and non-alcoholic drinks or mixers. Most have been BYOB. I believe the clubs in Colombia require everyone to strip down at least to underwear, that's usually not a requirement in the US.
The main rule was always that you don't touch anyone else without permission. Sometimes permission is nothing more than a look from another guy. Sometimes it involved sitting down with another couple and discussing what rules they play by.

I'm going to have to assume that whatever your business is in the US it's not something that can be done remotely, so maybe try to just figure out how to generate this type of money in the USA in something passive like real estate versus generating revenue in Colombia. I know that sounds simplistic, but generating revenue in Colombia is tricky with tax consequences. And also, assuming your not at retirement age, getting a visa to live here can be challenging as well, unless you go the investment route which can get you a one or maybe three year visa which needs to be renewed, or permanent residency depending on how much money you have to invest. And if you live here more than 183 days a year, your considered a tax resident, and will be required to file a tax return, and may owe taxes.
Your desire to live here full time is shared by many, and is doable, yet will be challenging unless your wealthy. I suggest you study up on the type's of visas's available to foreigners. Medellin Guru, albeit claimed by some to be not all that good, does have a good primer on this subject that might help you develop a strategy to get you here permanently.

People in Medellin say I speak Spanish just fine-though some paisas I have to ask to speak slower for me to understand everything.
I had 3 years in high school and 3 semesters in college plus a lot of time in Spanish speaking places and I have worked with Spanish speakers who help me practice over many years.

I was happy staying with my GF in a $111 per month Strata 2 casa on the side of a mountain in San Javier. That is a little too extreme for most gringos. I have done a fairly detailed spread sheet analysis and I can live here in Medellin for 40% of what it costs me in the states, and I have no mortgage or car payments in the USA. Smells are different for everyone.
I hate the smell of smoke. None of my friends smoke. I could never have a GF or wife that smokes. If my wife decided to smoke she may be on her way out. $250/ month is just a number. There are apartments for half that amount or less and there apartments at 10 times that price. The location is a good starting point to give the number some meaning.

Most gringos qualify with what is commonly called the "pensioner" visa. Please note all visas, of which there are many, were changed to alpha-numeric codes a few years ago, and I am not going to look up those codes now. But the common terminology is still in place. The pensioner visa requires bank statements I think for ten months or a year that show a regular pension deposit that is more than three times the minimum wage in Colombia. I don't remember the exact amount because 90% of guys social security check qualifies them. So most retirees that move here use an official translated copy (notarized and apostille) benefit letter from the SSA (Social Security Administration), to qualify.
However, what if you are not collecting social security and do not receive any other type of pension? There is another kind of financial visa, which is probably the one you are referring about, where the requirement is ten months of bank statements, balance only. As long as the balance never dipped below TEN times the monthly minimum wage income, you qualify. I think that falls somewhere between $2000-3000 USD but I haven't cross checked it yet.
I did not answer your question because, before you can even think about becoming a resident, you have to get a Migracion or Immigration visa first, two of which I just described above. There are many other types of visas. There are others. You can cohabitate and support a Colombian, I don't believe it requires marriage or that the relationship be hetero, but don't quote me on that. You can impregnate a Colombiana and as long as you are the father of record on the birth certificate, you get to stay. You can invest in Colombia or do a business start-up and employ a certain number of Colombians.
There is a timeline, I think it's five years before you can apply for residency, but at this point I don't know what I am talking about, someone else can chime in on that. Hopefully this helped.

My experiences are more in line with Mr. E. In my 16 years of visiting Colombia and banging a bunch of chicas in Medellin, very rarely have I ever experienced girls with odor problems. Cost of a very nice 3 bed, 3.5 bath apartment in a nice area of Laureles, unfurnished, was 1. 6 million pesos. This was a big place, about 1900 sqft, 2 blocks north of UPB and far enough from La 70 to be quiet. You can find 1 bed, 1 bath places for 1 million, in a good estrato 5 neighborhood. Utilities were about 100 k monthly and cable and internet was about 120 k. Call it about 1. 5 million with all utilities, for a fair sized 1 bed apartment, with all utilities, or around $450 monthly.
For lunch I usually prefer the little Colombian places, cost about 12 k average. For dinner I splurge more, but still average about 25 k. Breakfast I prefer to make something simple, less than 5 k daily. Call it another 1. 2 million for food. Using the Metro and buses kept my travel costs to about 300 k monthly.
All together, you can live pretty good on 3 million COP monthly, not counting entertainment expenses. Call it $800 monthly.
You're going to have setup costs, buying furniture and all the stuff you need in the apartment. If you keep your hooker budget under 1 million weekly, you're looking at $2200 per month, all in.
If you need to be close to Parque Lleras, you might need $5000, but it's not a necessity.

I was happy staying with my GF in a $111 per month Strata 2 casa on the side of a mountain in San Javier. That is a little too extreme for most gringos. The cost for services and cable is prorated based upon the estrato of the neighborhood. You'll pay more in an estrato 6 area than in an estrato 4 area.
The first apartment I was in was also 3 beds, 2 baths in an estrato 6 area at the south end of Poblado. With my roommate, who took 2 or 3 showers daily, left lights on and had all the lights setup 5 nights a week for her webcam broadcasts, I think the highest we paid was 170 k. We had a dedicated Fiber line for internet, which cost 445 k monthly.
At the place in Laureles, still had a webcam model broadcasting, but with all LED lights, and didn't have someone running a hair dryer every day. I think the highest was 110 k. Initially has cable installed, for around 120 k, but then had to go with fiber, because the speed was only hitting 2 Mbps on the upload side.

I experienced something a little different when I stayed at the Haven (twice). The first room I had was small. Only a double bed. No jacuzzi. Shower was great. The second room I booked had a jacuzzi. I thought the room was great. Much bigger than the first room. Jacuzii was a good size, looked good, and had various control options (including music). The room had a small table with two chairs. The pool is small, but I was often the only one in it (or I was with a chica). Elevator is small and slow (only one of them). I would agree that most of the guys are met were relative newbies, which makes sense given it's proximity to Lleras.
Never stayed in the Dann Carlton, but have stayed several times in the Dann Carlton Belfort. Beds are hard for my tastes (because I'm a side sleeper). But it's quiet. The staff is nice (no issues with brining in girls). The pool is good and there is a jacuzzi. You can get a good deal during the week. Prices always seemed to be higher on the weekend, which seemed counterintuitive given the clientele I saw. Taxis get lost because they always assume you want to go to the Dann Carlton, not the Dann Carlton Belfort. The two are relatively close to one another.
Arrive July 4th Medellin (from Bog) stayed at Haven for 3 nights, Jacuzzi room with balcony, has a terrific view from the rooftop. Pool is tiny, so it is the bar / restaurant. Most of the people there were amateur "mongers". They had no clue what to do or where to go. Constant parade of girls in & out / small elevator. Jacuzzi is overrated & dangerous. Flooded the room. No place to sit, no desk but staff brought in extra furniture for me. Nice people. Get a large room if you stay there. Forget the Jacuzzi. IMHO.

I've used both of those, as well as pasionprepagos, and paisasdivinas. Only one I haven't used was erospremium.

3. I've made arepas at home. The basic hockey puck arepas you get in restaurants are made with warm water and fine ground corn flour (masarepa). With the possible addition of a bit of salt, that's all. Adding melted butter, salt and shredded mozzarella makes a huge difference.

Just because empanadas are sold on every single block in Colombia does not mean it is good and definitely the would "cuisine" should not be attached to it. Hotdogs are also sold all over the place in this country it is definitely also not cuisine. It is only "food" or low level "sustenance". Seems as if all the Colombian restaurants serve beans, rice, fried plantain, and salad with some sort of meat. That is hardly special or unique tasting.

There are two kinds of street food here. You can get soups / stews / sancocho and the second kind of fast food is fried. All of it. The bandeja paisa is an egg, some beans, a slice or two of avocado, a lot of rice, a long piece of salted and fried pork rind (chicharron) and a piece of very well done beef or pork. Most other meals start with soup and are followed with a plate of various combinations of the bandeja paisa. It gets old fast. The good news is there are many other choices outside of the barrios.
I was chatting with two Colombian teachers and they asked how I liked Colombian food and I could only say it is OK. I explained it was very bland with no use of a certain spice that sticks out into my mind. They were not happy with my assessment.
Just because empanadas are sold on every single block in Colombia does not mean it is good and definitely the would "cuisine" should not be attached to it. Hotdogs are also sold all over the place in this country it is definitely also not cuisine. It is only "food" or low level "sustenance". Seems as if all the Colombian restaurants serve beans, rice, fried plantain, and salad with some sort of meat. That is hardly special or unique tasting.

If you were working at some lax start up you could probably get away with leaving an always on desktop set up in SF with TeamViewer or something and just transfer shit over to that computer when you need to submit work to the office. Quick trip. Quick report.

Thanks.I can't tell from your question exactly what's going on, it almost sounds like you've got family or legit business in your primary room which means these two rooms must not cross. The reason I say that is because the best set up for mongering in both rooms is two rooms in the same hotel. One in the front, one in the back, different floors, different stairwells. The most common misconception is that you need different hotels and worse, far apart. The closer the better. But if you're at risk of end of marriage or end of job if you get caught then I would not recommend same hotel.

He seems nice, but I know just enough Spanish to understand him asking her if I know what he is saying, and he said it in a way like he wanted to hide something. Spidey sense tingling. He's a good driver and takes a great way to El Centro, but with Parque Berrio in sight, Secret turns around and says, "he's going to park the car and come with us. " Whut, whut?" Oh, and at the same time I was trying to pay him with my 50 mil COP note and he said he had no change.
That was the moment when I felt like enough is enough. We were stopped in gridlock, so I simply opened the back door and bailed out. I am not saying my life was in danger or anything terrible was about to happen but I have stayed safe during all my international travels by going by gut instinct and knowing when to bail. I'd rather overreact and be happy and safe and sound. Another thing, I had forgotten my phone so I was feeling a little bare about the plan because I am definitely not fluent in Spanish, yet. And I sure as hell didn't want or need a third wheel dude wingman on a trip to get a blow job with a puta. I wasn't scared, I was fed up. I had a great time working my way back to my hotel, walked to the San Antonio station, past Ground Zero. Bought some reading glasses. Stretched my legs. When I got to my room the message from Secret only confirmed in my mind that I did the right thing. She wrote, "Why did you do that? I was only joking. " Joking? Where's the fucking joke? You tell me. Ostee Out.
P.S. The day ended up great with a visit from Scarlet and a reconnect with Catgirl coming back off the mountain on her new moto. She should be here in about 4 hours Colombian time, so make that 8 hours, jajaja. Secret is out, I am done with her for the rest of this trip. I dunno about when I return.

Mr K do you know anyway to get into a whatapp acct after they deactivate it because the sim is deactivated.
I have several puta burner fones with whatsapp from different countries and I need to get into them, getting the number from the contact list.
And trying from a different active whatsapp acct isn't working.
I'm having issues with Line as well if anyone's a Line expert, ID be willing to pay for a solution on that issue.Whatsapp really goes by the phone and partially by the number. You need the number to activate it, but after that it just goes by the phone. You can put a SIM with a different number in and out of that phone as many times as you want to, but the Whatsapp stays with the original number. It is not deactivated until you either put another SIM in and activate whatsapp with that number, or someone else gets a SIM for that number and they activate it on their phone.
With Line you just have to have your account (screen name and password) and activate it on a particular phone. No phone number is needed.
Of course you will have to have all of your data previously backed up on both platforms to see anything old.
