I just looked at a flight out from MDE with 2 weeks advance and looked at some days. Each way was 139900 K COP. Which is $52. Either way, its still reasonable. Have fun in San Andres.My plans changed last minute and I kept comparing flights to CTG and Santa Marta. In the end I bought tix with less than a week in advance. So it was a little higher than normal I guess. Still a great price in my opinion. Happy to be heading to San Andres for the first time.

Spent a week in Medellin with a young friend. I am 58 he is 27 so we had different experiences. Spent the first few days in El Centro at the Nutibara. If you stay there just make sure to get a room towards the back, away from the discotec. That's what we did and it was quite nice. $65 k per day. After arrival in a van from the airport, went to Mondongos on the other side of the river. Very nice, but a little pricey. That same first night he took a girl out of Fase 2, she wanted to drink, at Charlee's, quite expensive. Finally they went to a love hotel, and then she got a taxi for them to come back to the Nutibara. Nice intro to Medellin, glad he survived. That same night we had a few drinks at the disco at the Nutibara, there were some locals dancing, it was amusing. Then about 3 am walked down to Conejitas. Not very nice at that hour. Then walked around the block. Bad idea, but interesting and we lived. Approaching back to the Nutibara, entered a "casino", there were about 10 people around the roulette table. I bet it up with $10 k worth of tokens. People were very nice.
Next day had breakfast near that same casino, right across the street from the Nutibara. En El Centro the young locals can be seen drinking at breakfast time, they haven't been to bed. Nice "bandeja paisa" for about $5. Took a walk down towards "La Minorista", it gets dicier and dicier. Bought some fresh-squeezed orange juice from this lady on the corner, she warned us, but we kept on. It is a sight to see. My young friend had never been to Central or South America, it was quite the wake-up call. Finally got so dicey we had to cross over to a sort of median area. Police put on their plastic gloves and searched two guys right next to us. We got a pass. Walked back, they seemed to have some sort of complicated whistling warning system to protect their drug sales.
Bought some phones. In this regard I will say that things have changed - 3 years ago you could get mugged for a smartphone, but nowadays everyone has one. So you might consider bringing your own phone, it's not the big deal it used to be.
Then not long past noon time went to "Parque del Periodista". That place is crazy fun, particularly if you like to smoke. Never made it back, but it would be awesome at night.
I did continue to take some walks during the daytime back behind the Nutibara. It is quite crazy. It would be good to study for a sociologist, but even though it's interesting it really is just too dangerous.
The next day after another good breakfast, went to try to buy a lighter. The little store didn't have one, but this guy there took us around to find a lighter, the whole time telling me that we needed to get out of there, too dangerous. This I took as a sign, and we got a taxi to head for La 70. (in hindsight it would have been easier and cheaper to take the metro). The cab driver took forever, because he was looking for a hotel that would pay him a commission. It's actually a pretty short ride. Finally I told him to just let us out, and we were on the best part of La 70 in any event.
We sat down to get some food, and there was a little park behind us. We ended up getting a room in a newly-refurbished Hotel Parque 70. This hotel was super. This area is just a few hundred yards from the metro station El Estadio and it is a great location. La 70 is infinitely more authentic than Parque Lleras, and you walk out your door and you are right there. We went to a soccer game, La Verde versus Cali. Happened to sit right next to this group of about 300 crazy kids, sometimes referred to as the "Porra Brava". Amazing experience. Fortunately La Verde managed to come out with a tie game, so no actual violence. Next time I will sit at the other end of the stadium with the people who have shirts on.
We found Energy after some searching, and went there every day. You can walk from La 70, or take a taxi. They do the little parade for your selection, and there are beautiful women there. I couldn't remember their names, so I called out a name and got a lady I hadn't really requested, but she turned out to be quite complaisant, and I was a happy camper. There were 2 "10's" there, one from Medellin and one from Venezuela. It was $140 k for an hour, money very well spent.
There are many restaurants on La 70, and also there is food on the street. You can get steak, slaw and fries on the street, with a drink for about $5 US. Or you can get a more upscale delicious meal at the parilla "Dejame que te cuente".
During downtime, we played 3 cushion at a nice 3 cushion pool hall right there on La 70.

There is some talk on this thread about taxis in MDE. After being here a while here is my take. Tonight, for instance, I got into a cab where the meter was already on from the previous customer at 7500. I ask the cabbie once to restart back to 2700, he ignores me. He finally resets it after one block and me asking him three times.
The point is if you are firm you will not get fucked over. If you behave like a pushover you will be taken advantage of. This is more so at night than at day.
I have the impression that Colombians are always observing you to see if you are drunk or weak. So don't be either or you will get screwed over unless you have someone who's got your back.
If you feel that your taxista is ripping you off and you are scared to deal with him at night (which you should not be anyway) there is a solution if you are heading back to your hotel / apartment. If it is a nice apartment / hotel they will undoubtedly have a security guard at the entrance. When you get out of the cab you motion the security guard to come over and explain to him any problems. He will know how to solve the situation.
Nothing bad has ever happened to me in MDE, but I always see the security guard from my building looking carefully at the cab and at me to make sure everything is ok.
Also, it is better to go with an older taxi driver. The younger ones are less professional in my opinion and play more games. Old taxistas rarely play games.
For best results try and hail a cab that just dropped off customers.
I have also received good advice from taxi drivers with instructions on which roads to take depending on if it is rush hour or not and different tactics to employ for getting around the city.
The way to do this is to discuss routes with them so that they know you are not ignorant. Also give the impression that you might be a repeat customer. Pretend you live in the city.
Obviously it is an advantage if you speak the language somewhat.

Good advice, check the meter before your trip begins. I'm not so sure how much of the rest is borderline superstition. Old vs. Young driver, just dropped off passenger (less chance he is a serial killer?) . Medellin taxistas are not nearly the worst of Latin America. Their accident rate and courtesy level compare well with other places around the region in my experience. Anyway, if I were worried about taxista shenanigans, I would opt for uber. The drivers are checked outand always polite. You get a fare quote in advance and it is always cheaper than a taxi. You don't have to worry about having cash or the right amount of small bills or how much to tip or any of the other stressful nonsense. Don't get me wrong, taxis have their place and uber can be hard to get in certain neighborhoods but the convenience and security erases a lot of distractions.

I suspect taxis that don't stop are on their way to the safety of their homes. I think there is no problem getting a taxi late at night in Poblado in front of the Hard Rock for example. Taxis carry cash and I think everybody knows there are some characters who hang around Botero Plaza at night you don't necessarily want to be in an enclosed space with.

They are likely going to a customer that has A) Called and asked for a taxi. B) Used one of the apps such as Tappsi.

Had a overnight red eye flight into MIA then onto MDE. Got to the land of paradise around 1 pm. Got settled in El Castillo and headed down to the mansion. There were about 10 girls there. There was this one that was just my type. Huge tits and big butt. We headed back up the hill to my room. Every girl I ask never minds walking. I always offer the taxi option just to be nice. They always insist we walk. Fine with me too. In the room she was very nice. Very GFE we went at it for a while. She said she came very easily so that was nice. Yes, there is Uber in Medellin and Bogota. In Medellin, the 10,000 peso taxi fare from Centro to Lleras costs 8,000 to 9,000 COP on Uberx and 9,000 to 10,000 COP on Uber Black (the "luxury" version, VW Jetta vs. Low end Renault). It doesn't make much difference for the shorter trips most of us do but the smallest Uber cars are roomier than the yellow subcompaact taxis. So, you pay slightly less and you don't have to handle cash, and there is no tipping on uber.

Any verified girl-friendly hotels in the Mayorista downtown? Ideally somewhere with a better level of service than the cheap walk-up 'hotels' but where one can still smuggle a cheap Carrera 53 girl back? (With or without doorman tip.).

I had an apartment a couple of blocks away from Parque Lleras and a room at the Premier Plaza at ground zero adjacent to Botero Plaza. I typically would walk down Calle 10 to the Poblado Metro station and get off at the Berrio Metro Station and be one block from ground zero.
Some nights I'd be in Botero Plaza doing some of my regulars and afterwards would go out in the street and hail a cab from right in front of the Antiquoa Museum. No phone calls to drivers, identification issues, what kind of car, etc. And typically only a few minutes waiting except one night very late at 1 AM in the morning when the walking dead are in full force around Boero Plaza.
For the regulars that I had come to my apartment (not my El Centro girls) it was simple. They would ride the Metro to the Poblado Station and take a cab to my apartment. When they would leave I would hail a cab for them and they never had any problems getting into one of the public taxis.
I would use Uber if I wanted to make a day trip out of the City, etc. But for use within the City it doesn't make sense to me. I can pass for a Colombian looks wise until I open my mouth so I can see how perhaps an obvious looking gringo type might be smarter to use Uber.
I make a point of asking what area a girl lives in. It is not hard to calculate the bus / metro fares. I have sometimes, when a taxi fare is not pre-agreed at booking but she attempts to spring one on me before leaving, offered her the bus fare (kindly and quite literally) and even pointed out which stop to go to (not that she doesn't know already).

- Thai Spa.
This has the nicest rooms I've seen and the most expensive prices. An hour body massage is now 170 (compared to 130 at energy and 60 for an hour in centro). Small lineup and cute girls. On average better than energy. The massage I got though was pretty standard. Same as at energy (I was hoping for a Thai style soapy massage where the girl slides over you.).
One nice thing about Thai spa is the hours. Its open till 10 most nights so its a good option if your looking for early night action.
Thai spa is also on the circular sur bus route. So you can go right from centro ave oriental to about a block away on the bus (if your a cheapskate going to a pricey place) - be warned though. They charge you 20 K entry fee (and give you a beer or water) if you enter but don't pick a girl.

Has anyone tried to send your girl home in an Uber car instead of giving her the taxi money in cash? With no tipping and an accurate accounting of the actual fare, it's a dream come true for a cheap charlie like myself.
Uber owes me money for promoting them! LOL! The surge pricing will never surprise anyone who requests a fare quote before authorizing the trip. I covered the unauthorized trips in another post. If you tell the driver you will complain if he strays from the agreed route you will not have a problem. If you've ever used Uber you know the management keeps a very tight leash on their drivers. It's obvious in the way they interact with passengers. They are trained to be solicitous and friendly. Two of them literally begged me for positive post trip reviews.
Until you get the charge and see that she made multiple stops with the Uber driver ("hell, my gringo is paying for it. Why not?") I know if I got some idiot to charge my ride home on their credit card I would go scoop up all my family and friends and do some things ("wait here driver...).
Dumb Gringo (texting and calling her cell phone): "Hey, you promised me you would go straight home and nowhere else!"

You should have texted instructions to the driver with a warning you would report any unauthorized diversions. That is why Uber provides post trip GPS tracking. I swear by them but I also use taxis if the wait for a Uber car is longer than I want or an Uber car is not available. It's a nice option and I think it will force the already generally good Medellin taxi service to improve even more. It will also keep a lid on price increases.

I sent one to come meet me in Santa Fe (I have a jailbroken phone so I can change my location and have uber pick up whereever) anyway this fucking **** has me waiting 2 fucking hours to get from near Bello down to centro omerical santa fe. 2 fucking hours! She fucking lied your fucking **** off. I saw where hte stops were etc. After that never again!!

I have only been to Medellin twice, so I am basically a newbie like you. I would recommend Colombia Jake. He basically provides a concierge service and hotel in one. You stay in his large apartment in Poblado (the nicest part of town), he takes you on tours of casas and at night he arranges "dates" for you. You tell him the kind of girls you like, and he delivers. Its a pretty unique and good service. Its $97 per day, including the room. He can also assist you with things like local SIM cards, help at pharmacies, and basically anything else you are interested in doing in Medellin. However if you want to do general tourist stuff, go to the hostels near his place, they have a lot of packages for tourist stuff (like paragliding or the Pablo Escobar tours).
The Mansion is also a great option - http://hotelmedellinplaza.com/ - this is a full service small hotel (24 rooms in 2 buildings) and in the main building there is a bar in the basement where there are plenty of girls every night. Girls also often hang around the pool during the day. The rates vary based on the room you get. Between $85-$100 a day, includes a nice breakfast. The guys who stay here are usually veterans in Medellin and are often very helpful. The front desk and night guard people at this hotel all speak English and can help you do stuff like get a SIM card and order food & cabs. The Mansion is also in Poblado, just behind the main street.
Remember that there isn't that much English spoken in Medellin. If you are fluent in Spanish, there are a lot of other ways to do Medellin very cheaply. However given how strong the USD is now, its going to be a bargain however you go and you might as well make it as easy as possible given that you only have 4 days. The Mansion or Colombia Jake will make the trip very easy for you and will help you save a lot of time on advance planning and searching for girls. On my last visit I got to Jake's apartment at 10 pm from the airport and he had a great girl there just waiting for me. No time wasted at all.
The Mansion and Jake's apartment are only a 5 minute cab ride apart, so you can mix up you stay very easily. Use your time over the next month to brush up on your Spanish, that is going to be the most useful thing. There are a lot of beautiful girls in Medellin, but they don't speak a lick of English. Of course you aren't there for the conversation, but its nice to try.

Its not on the Casa map I found.It's amazing how some basic info is largely absent even after RTFF. To find Mayorista start with any map of Medellin. It's an elongated city between to mountain ridges and maps don't always follow north-south.
Through the whole length of Medellin is a river, main throughfare and most importantly the main Metro line. Towards the right hand side (or bottom, depending on the map) you'll find Metro stops (called 'estacions') Poblado, Aguacatala, and Ayura. On one side of Ayura, look for Plaza Mayorista.
Other starter info (especially for non-Spanish speakers) should maybe include tips on the paper money. 1000 and 10,000 look annoyingly similar and a 50 mil note is worth 50,000, not 50 million. Conversion rates are varying enormously when changing money.

The Casas make it so you can see before you choose. I'm always hesitant with online service sites (escort services etc) be / see ya never really know who is going to show up.
The strip clubs also let you look before you touch--probably more expensive than the Casas--at least that scene is usually more in other places. But, I would guess there are more 9's and 10's at a strip club than a Casa.
Are there other cool spots to pick 'them up? Known bars late night in Parque Lleras? Other clubs / bars?

There is a lot of noise in the forum but if you are diligent and go through each post maybe up to a year back you'll know what you need to know to have a good time without paying any gringo tax to an overpriced hotel. I stayed in both Mayorista and Poblabo and did casa runs during the day on my own. I speak some Spanish so that helped especially when checking into my hotel in Mayorista. The locals in that area don't speak much English. I met some other punters in Mayorista at night and had a blast.
MAYORISTA Metro: Ayur.
'Mayorista' (in terms of mongering) is a strip of cheap bars and brothels within walking distance of Ayur Metro station. Safe.
You can use a bus or taxi, or take the Metro in the direction of "El Estrella. " Ayur is the stop after Aguacatala. The Metro is also modern and safe.
As you get off the Metro you have to turn right along the station platform to exit ('saida' This takes you up some steps and you turn left at the top. You can see Mayorista area on a map before you leave if you like. It's on the opposite side of the Metro line to Poblado and the same side as Olaya Herrera domestic airport. The Metro bridge takes you over the freeway and the river. You can see the big Chevrolet / Autolarte building. It comes out onto a big dual-carriageway street, Calle 85, running at right angles to the Metro line.
Follow this street, Calle 85, staying on the same side (left hand side as you walk away from the station; the Chevrolet building is on the right hand side). You will pass the usual motley collection of street vendors selling street food and knicknacks.
Within a few minutes you reach the entrance to "Plaza Mayorista" which you ignore. Plaza Mayorista is an enormous covered wholesale market, warehouse area, about five enormous supermarkets, many small shops selling lots of things other than chicas. Nice clean place to eat and wear yourself out walking.
Ignoring the entrance to Plaza Mayorista, carry on along Calle 85. You pass the Terpel garage on your left. Set back from the road is the long Mayorista Plaza building (about 8 floors with a stripe of reddish brown brick along the middle). At the end of the block is a Plaza exit with a fancy silver canopy and some little waterfalls. Again ignore this and carry on along Calle 85. There's a barbed wire topped metal fence running along the Plaza area. Eventually Carlle 85 becomes something more 'normal' with small shops and bars and clubs and cafs and hotels cheap and less cheap. The chicas litter the pavement inviting you in. It winds up around Carrera 52. Choose well. Plenty of buses and taxis from here.
CARRERA 53 Metro: Parque Berrio.
This is definitely for the more adventurous and street-wise. Very cheap indeed. A block or so of cheap bars, clubs, stripshows with chicas spilling onto the pavement. Dangerous? Only for the foolhardy really, but the surrounding area is not that clean and lovely, especially at night, so investigating daytime first is recommended so you know your way around the area. Once in Carrera 53 you are reasonably safe if you are street-wise. You can watch a stripshow, no charge, though they like to collect a small amount after you've watched. There are many cons, but it is not like the rougher area of Prado or the almost adjacent Plaza Botero. However, you probably have to go through the rougher part to get to it. I suggest getting to know your options for getting back to the Metro or finding a taxi (ie Walking: any street that is well lit and has people. If in doubt, the big street going back to Parque Berrio Metro (Calle 51) is a good bet. However, Calle 53, while less savoury, is quicker for finding taxis (skip past the glue-sniffers etc).

Hi World Travel. I don't think it's a case of getting lost, simply as you can see, for a first timer there is lots of chat about what a great night I had or whether taxis are better than Uber, but rarely any info on what and where. A map tells you where Mayorista is but not what the area is like, whether to just turn up at night, or the difference between Mayorista the market and Mayorista chica-ville. People can waste days just finding things out. Especially if they are solo mongers rather than liking to hang out with other gringos (some would say bottom feeders!)
But the forum is about giving information, so I hope I do not get flamed for giving directions, or for mentioning the rougher areas. I've had to find out all this myself and tbh I got zero info from the Medellin board, more from other forums.

Ignoring the entrance to Plaza Mayorista, carry on along Calle 85. You pass the Terpel garage on your left. Set back from the road is the long Mayorista Plaza building (about 8 floors with a stripe of reddish brown brick along the middle). At the end of the block is a Plaza exit with a fancy silver canopy and some little waterfalls. Again ignore this and carry on along Calle 85. There's a barbed wire topped metal fence running along the Plaza area. Eventually Carlle 85 becomes something more 'normal' with small shops and bars and clubs and cafs and hotels cheap and less cheap. The chicas litter the pavement inviting you in. It winds up around Carrera 52. Choose well. Plenty of buses and taxis from here.
CARRERA 53 Metro: Parque Berrio.
This is definitely for the more adventurous and street-wise. Very cheap indeed. A block or so of cheap bars, clubs, stripshows with chicas spilling onto the pavement. Dangerous? Only for the foolhardy really, but the surrounding area is not that clean and lovely, especially at night, so investigating daytime first is recommended so you know your way around the area. Once in Carrera 53 you are reasonably safe if you are street-wise. You can watch a stripshow, no charge, though they like to collect a small amount after you've watched. There are many cons, but it is not like the rougher area of Prado or the almost adjacent Plaza Botero. However, you probably have to go through the rougher part to get to it. I suggest getting to know your options for getting back to the Metro or finding a taxi (ie Walking: any street that is well lit and has people. If in doubt, the big street going back to Parque Berrio Metro (Calle 51) is a good bet. However, Calle 53, while less savoury, is quicker for finding taxis (skip past the glue-sniffers etc).

Normal warnings in triplicate for sure and if you don't speak any Spanish and are an obvious foreigner this would not be a good place to hang out after dark. I've had some great fun here and have been quoted as low as 15,000 to 20,000 Pesos by some of the girls. There are some gems to be had here but again you need to have some Spanish speaking skills as these areas are really for the locals and very few gringos partake here. Also, there are quite a few minors around along with the 'sacaleros" glue sniffers you mentioned which hang out alongside the Museum and behind it.
You should search through a few pages of posts and then ask questions.
I guess Mayorista is the street walk scene--no thanks for me.

For those of you asking for details on Mayorista and centro street scene, the "Street-View" feature of Google Maps works all over Medellin and Bogota. I highly urge you to use it and go up and down all the streets and avenues mentioned plus a bit of the surrounding area and how to walk to nearby metro stops. It's even pretty funny to see images of the SWs in the Google Street-View, although of course all faces are now blurred in Google. It's all there, that way, even the first time you actually explore a street scene, you'll see a lot of familiar spots / landmarks and feel some confidence; you won't look like a total newbie which is helpful when approaching SWs. Or just walking around, you'll give less of a vulnerable vibe to any potential bad actors. I use it even for just visiting daytime spots, and I definitely check out a whole area using street-view before going there at night. Street view is of course all day-time shots, but at least it won't look so unfamiliar even after dark. I tend to be an anxious person, LOL, so it's helpful to me when checking out new spots especially in the evening hours; for me, the advanced research takes off the edge, I'm more relaxed approaching a chica or looking for a legit taxi.

Of course at that time it is dark, and not many people about so it is not 100% safe. If you are uneasy than there are cab's to take at the base of the metro to the strip for a small fee.

REPLY: Something near Lleras. I'll let other guys be specific. I stay closer to Oviedo.

REPLY: 3 p.m. is a little late, unless you want to be stuck in a lot of traffic on your way back. Go in the late morning or early afternoon. If you are only budgeting $20 - $100 on a room, why would you want to go to Thai spa, pretty much the most expensive casa? Read the board and you'll get several recommendations for less expensive casas with quality chicas. Everyone has their opinion, but FII is usually a waste of money.

Medellin probably has as many non pro beauties as anywhere in the world. On a typical day through town, I see stunners who don't even get a second look. Grant it, I think Medellin has some of the most beautiful women in the world. There is a reason I have been going there for the past 40 years. (I went in my early 20's when I did not have to pay and gladly pay now one way or the other.).
It is possible to do it on a budget but only once you get the lay of the land. There is a learning curve like anywhere else in the world. Just go and any tentative agenda will quickly fall by the wayside. Enjoy. You can't go wrong.

My first visit I spent $120 per night at a hotel (I wanted to stay at a hotel), and wanted to get to know Medellin first. I read the forums, got some good info, and then upon arrival decided to check it out myself. I try to stick to two chicas a day, one day time and one night time and possibly TLN if I have a good experience and build up some chemistry with the girl. If I look at dining costs, taxi costs, misc. And any unexpected situations where I need to spend. It's going to be more than $100 but I'm sure it can be managed to be close to $100 a day if you're just extremely careful and watch every peso you spend. I just don't think that's a good way to enjoy your vacation. Colombia is pretty cheap overall, so I don't worry much about the costs because I want to have a good time. I think after the first time it's ok to look back and calculate how much you spent per day, and if you felt it was worth it or you could have cut in certain areas and still had as good of a time.
Save up and do what you can to not worry about staying at $100 and under. If you are that concerned, then consider other places or just really nail down a strategy where you know exactly what you're going to spend every single day. But is that really fun? I suppose for some it might be, for me. Not so much.

To those of you who mentioned non-pros, you need to consider a few things before wasting your limited time in Colo pursuing them:
1. First and foremost, you can't be staying at the Mansion. No non-pro would ever step foot inside there. If she does, she's not a non-pro.
2. How's your Spanish? I'm not asking if you know "hola", "cuanto", and "chupa sin condom". I mean can you have an actual conversation in Spanish with a girl. If you can't, stick to the Mansion and MP girls.
3. Can you dance? The way to a Latina's heart is through dancing. Not necessary, but helps exponentially.

I enjoy on the estadio side of the river Tues and Thursday nights starting at 8 pm. They close a main avenue for bikers, walkers, rollerblade, etc. For several hours. I have a bike stored with a friend and we go out both nights of the week. Other parts of the city may have some routes as well. My route starts near Colombia Ave (50) and ends at Ayura metro station the street that is closed is ave Del Rio. Nice way to get some exercise and mix with the locals.

Great advice. Thanks, and I like your honesty. I'm visiting MDE for the pro's so I'll stick to them. Why complicate life and waste time when there can be a simple understanding between me and the girls, what's expected (both ways). To me Medellin doesn't have much to offer visually. When I'm there I play tennis and golf at a country club (I'm not going to divulge the name for fear of locos arriving) and I meet girls on Facebook that are non-pros before I leave. I speak good Spanish and I enjoy speaking to everyone I come into contact with. Personally I can do everything I need to do in 4 or 5 nights. I have stayed longer but I start missing my life and get tired of Spanish in less than a week. You could always book longer and just pay a change ticket fee and leave earlier. I do this about 70% of the time. Sometimes I just wake up and decide I have done everything I needed to on a trip and I get on the phone and change my ticket. The only place I extended my stay was in Cuba because to me it was a very relaxing place with little traffic. Medellin isn't bad but I like Bogota better. I stayed in Greg's mansion when it was a penthouse and I stayed with another guy named John many times. I have also been to the mansion a few times for a few nights but I prefer a really nice hotel instead. San Fernando plaza is good because of the rooftop heated pool and location.

I'm staying in Medellin for a while and not in a rush, so I'm not extremely active on the scene, and I have some regulars that I've met outside of the casas. But I thought I would leave a few casa reviews before I forget. I speak Spanish okay.
A note for new visitors, I have not had any trouble finding these places using the addresses provided on the list / map. Just make sure to have the exact address because casas are not typically marked, though sometimes a tout might be handing out flyers in the street nearby. Usually there will be a metal door beneath the address and you just walk in, then pass through another door or two, maybe ringing a doorbell along the way.
Taxis: no problems so far. They will probably ask you to repeat the address a few times during the drive and they'll often ask other drivers and people on the street for directions, even though it might seem sequential calles / carreras would be easy to navigate. I know about how much rides should cost and I haven't been taken on the scenic route or had problems getting change etc. Some drivers won't want to go where you're going, which could be entering Centro, leaving Centro etc. , but I haven't had to ask more than two taxistas for a ride.
I have walked from Laureles to Centro and back during the day and haven't felt endangered at all. If you're going to Centro in daylight and get within 5-10 blocks of your destination, you might want to just get out and walk, because the traffic can be awful and there's plenty to look at.
I noticed the Uber discussion here, and I think it's worth considering for the reasons given. For the budget-minded, there are promos available specifically for Colombia when you sign up. You can find them online or get one from someone else who has joined.
New Life.
I went to the old standby at around noon, mid-week. They showed me maybe 15 chicas, nothing special. There was a cute brunette and a black girl I liked, but I ended up picking a girl named Sara because she had nice legs (1 HR, 70 K, pay when you're done). She was fair-skinned, plain-faced, tall, said she was 21, but looked more mid-20's. Her waist was a bit wider than I realized, though her legs and ass were solid. I should have asked whether she was available herself, but I did not (anyone know? The lineup was the most obese one I've seen, including a couple who were enormous and spherical. Even the thin, cuter ones seemed a bit flabby in back.

I have walked from Laureles to Centro and back during the day and haven't felt endangered at all. If you're going to Centro in daylight and get within 5-10 blocks of your destination, you might want to just get out and walk, because the traffic can be awful and there's plenty to look at.
I noticed the Uber discussion here, and I think it's worth considering for the reasons given. For the budget-minded, there are promos available specifically for Colombia when you sign up. You can find them online or get one from someone else who has joined.

I went to the old standby at around noon, mid-week. They showed me maybe 15 chicas, nothing special. If you got game, then you would want to stay longer, to meet non pros.

Like Dcfan I think I also may have used the phrase 'bottom-feeder' though I believe less judgementally. I like all the variations personally, highest to lowest, and although I generally don't like to be 'hand-fed,' the Mansion, for instance, is a separate experience and worth checking out. So, its my first time to Medellin, my Spanish is very poor and even though I'm adventurous I decided to play it safe and spend the first four nights at the Mansion and the last two at Jakes. About half the guys in the bar will be staying at M2 and it's completely normal for the girls to go there with you. Some will be fine with walking. Some will insist on a taxi, which is only a buck or two. The girls generally don't mind walking, but they frequently are wearing real high heels which makes that steep walk difficult.

I have a few questions I was hoping the community could help me with:
- I was thinking of going during the end of August / beginning of September. Is that a bad time of year regarding holidays, festivals, expos, or other events that might cause a price inflation?
- is a 7-10 day trip for my first trip going to be overwhelming?
- which is better? Spreading my time at various spots or staying at one place (like the mansion).
- besides the mongering stuff is there other stuff that is cultural or touristy that must I check out while I'm there?
Thanks for any and all the help guys.In my opinion, for a first trip, 4-5 days should be plenty if you will just stay in Medellin. Personally, I would not recommend travelling around the country by yourself, on your first trip, even more so if your Spanish is weak.
Save the rest of the days for another trip because you will want to come back within 3 months.

Need to use a ST motel one night next week. I've been to Mayorista before and used those places for a Mayorista chica, but I won't be with one of them, so trying to avoid those s*it holes.
I have looked at Hotel Cupid, Motel Ibiza, and Hotel Punto Cero online. Google maps suggests that Cupido is north of Poblado and Punto Cero is very near the center. Coming from Poblado, it seems that Ibiza in Itagui is the best option.
Any thoughts on any of these places? Or anyone have a better option / suggestion? Looking for a few hours in a decent place that is easy / quick to get to from Poblado and in a decent area (since I'll be taking my chica there at night).

The map isn't exactly the most useful when walking down the street-unless you print a big one all zoomed in. Withcar the addresses clear and legible--but, I don't think that's realistic for all the casas--esp when so many are clustered near each other.
But, if I am on carrera 47 near calle 48 (making up an address for an example) then I can figure out where destination xxx is at carrera 49 # 47-5 (making up and address for the point I am making).
Anyway, in a few days, I'll be exploring-and I will try and give a good report when I am done.
I've read a lot of conflicting info about La Mayorista, so I thought I'd throw my own limited experience out there.
A few months back, I was in Medellin for just a couple nights, and decided to spend them in La Mayorista. Coming from the bus terminal, the taxi driver had trouble finding the place. We went all over before he finally talked to a cop and got directions.
I stayed at Hotel Alcaravan, which is just a block or so away from La Mayorista strip. I'm a low-class guy, so I considered it a pretty nice hotel for 55K a night. Clean, a safe in the room, good shower, electronic keycard, wall-to-wall / ceiling-to-floor window overlooking the denim shops and smoggy hills of Medellin. And the evening receptionist was a dollface. Also, chica-friendly, no fee or hassle.
The Mayorista strip itself, however, was not much fun. I had read that there are usually more hot girls after 11 pm or 12, but I saw more at around 9 pm (Fri and Sat night). By the time I had dinner and a beer and walked back and forth a few times, there seemed to be fewer cute chicas. Lots of obese ones, and lots with silicone on both top and bottom (not my thing).
I finally found one who was slim and pretty with some nice curves, a Spanish-looking brunette. I discussed business, and she said no BBBJ under any circumstances. I'm sure there's some price she'd accept. But I wasn't going to pay it, (though it might have been funny just to find out.) I then asked a really tiny cute one (not that young-looking once I saw her up close, over 20, I think) and she too flat out denied any unsheathed contact. The lists and maps are great, WT, and good that you update and circulate them; but for the newbie getting off the plane, maybe little or no Spanish, unfamiliar with the street numbering system, head full of information overload, maybe doesn't have a data sim, wondering which areas are safe, easy to get to, and so on it can be a bit much occasionally, as we can see from hesitant questions even from people who have RTFF.
When I did a quick guide on getting to a couple of main areas I got shot down a bit, but I do think it is worth persevering. If you print out the lists, and even if you have the maps on a smartphone (assuming you feel ok carrying one and know when and how it's ok to do so), it's a lot of info. The list runs to several pages. Might be ok to browse over breakfast in Lleras Park but can be too much to carry around. Then you have to click on each of the map locations to get details. No wonder so many opt for the "ask a regular to guide you" route!

For instance, even the whole of Candelaria is too much to scout out on foot and there isn't always a taxi on the backstreets when you want one. So take a few and annotate for quick reference so you can just glance at them without looking like a geek consulting a reference folder!
By the way, if you can be bothered WT or others, it might be good to add ("updated xx / xx / xxxx") to casas etc as you visit them. Usually when they have gone up it is still in the same ball-park, but it is helpful to know a current bottom price. E. g. Energy wouldn't shift below 130 (I guess they have to pay for those marble-effect bathrooms duh!) I think Zandalay is slightly more than listed as well, can't remember. It's too much work for one person to check all of them every year unless they are super-dedicated! (Another way is to take ownership, and issue 'your' list every so often, as happens in some countries on the board.).
All these are walking distance for instance (although you might want to cross off Yakusa unless you are down that grubby direction). Of course, most casas are only any good during the day. So bus from airport and either walk or taxi to first location, browse, stop when you see one you like.
You can do the same with the info for each one. If you are very nifty at editing, paste it onto the map (missing out bits you don't need and extra punctuation). Or type it and put it on your phone as a jpg. Or cut out that bit of the list that covers the ones you want. (eg Villanueva+Los Angeles for the mini map in the last post.).
The map is great, but what I really need is a list I can print and take with me with the names and addresses of the casas.
Then I can find any place I need. Its easy to navigate around a city if you have the actual addresses.
The map isn't exactly the most useful when walking down the street-unless you print a big one all zoomed in. Withcar the addresses clear and legible--but, I don't think that's realistic for all the casas--esp when so many are clustered near each other.
But, if I am on carrera 47 near calle 48 (making up an address for an example) then I can figure out where destination xxx is at carrera 49 # 47-5 (making up and address for the point I am making).
Anyway, in a few days, I'll be exploring-and I will try and give a good report when I am done.To clarify this 'Medellin List' issue:

I've read a lot of conflicting info about La Mayorista, so I thought I'd throw my own limited experience out there.
A few months back, I was in Medellin for just a couple nights, and decided to spend them in La Mayorista. Coming from the bus terminal, the taxi driver had trouble finding the place. We went all over before he finally talked to a cop and got directions.
I stayed at Hotel Alcaravan, which is just a block or so away from La Mayorista strip. I'm a low-class guy, so I considered it a pretty nice hotel for 55K a night. Clean, a safe in the room, good shower, electronic keycard, wall-to-wall / ceiling-to-floor window overlooking the denim shops and smoggy hills of Medellin. And the evening receptionist was a dollface. Also, chica-friendly, no fee or hassle.
The Mayorista strip itself, however, was not much fun. I had read that there are usually more hot girls after 11 pm or 12, but I saw more at around 9 pm (Fri and Sat night). By the time I had dinner and a beer and walked back and forth a few times, there seemed to be fewer cute chicas. Lots of obese ones, and lots with silicone on both top and bottom (not my thing).
I finally found one who was slim and pretty with some nice curves, a Spanish-looking brunette. I discussed business, and she said no BBBJ under any circumstances. I'm sure there's some price she'd accept. But I wasn't going to pay it, (though it might have been funny just to find out.) I then asked a really tiny cute one (not that young-looking once I saw her up close, over 20, I think) and she too flat out denied any unsheathed contact. I talked to several more and kept encountering the same issue, also no kissing or cunnilingus (though I didn't always inquire).

But, I did find her to be a respectable girl and I think warming her up in a longer session could be possible. All in all, I don't know why someone would go there instead of casas, unless you really like drinking and dancing with the girls first. Or maybe if you wanted to negotiate TLN or something, though it didn't seem like a good crowd for that. Also, I guess it could be a bit better deal than low-end strip clubs for night time action, since casas are usually closed then. But I don't know, as I prefer daytime indulgence myself..

I haven't seen many reports on this forum regarding the pricier casas / massage joints in Medellin so I thought I'd share my experiences from a visit last week. I should begin by noting that I do recognize that there are a lot of less expensive options available but I like to enjoy the company of a provider in a more upscale setting so was willing to pay the higher prices. I also like the fact that they are open at night. When one is in Medellin mainly for business but wants to have some fun on the side, it's hard to get away during the day when the less expensive casas are open.
First venture out was to Energy. The place is located in Estadio. Carretera 74 # 49-101. There were about a dozen chicas working; none were more than 7/8. I chose a tall busty chica named Lorena. I can't remember her number. She turned out not to be a great choice. Fake boobs, cesarean scar and unenthusiastic performance that I'd rate a 7 at best. On the positive side, the place is nice with a comfortable reception area, clean rooms with nice showers. Damage was 130 pesos for 1 hour with only one pop and everything covered.
Second venture was Loutron. This place is a little bit hard to find. It's on the road leading towards the airport. Address is Calle 12 Sur #10-245. It is located at the top of a winding side road and looks more like an upscale villa than a casa. The entry area is fine hardwood and there is art on the walls. I got there rather late (9:30 pm) and there were only about 8 chicas working. All were at least 8's and there were a couple of 9's. I went with Jessica, a tall Negra Chica who gave me a sassy smile during the parade through. All I can say is WOW. Gorgeous body and a nice personality. Experience was almost GFE except for the covered BJ. DFK, DATY which she was really into, 2 pops in multiple positions with some nice cuddling and conversation in between. More like what one would expect from an escort than a case Chica. The price is quite steep - 260 pesos for 60 minutes. But the service and ambiance were what one who want at that price.

Thanks also for confirming what I said a few posts ago that Energy is now 130 an hour, not 120 as indicated on the casa map info (at least the one I have downloaded). Let's be clear this is 130 K or 130,000 Colombian Pesos, often written Col $130,000 or COP130,000 (130 pesos of course would involve the smallest coins).
Perhaps the keepers of the lists could introduce some standardisation when they get a chance. The most recent download of the list I have, under Energy, has "Expensive $100 but good. " People who are familiar with Colombia know what they mean, naturally, but it makes for gobbledegook, especially when many USA Mongers understandably like to talk about USD equivalents. 100 USD it isn't, and even Col $100 K it isn't (as the price has clearly gone up).
I agree with what you say about enjoying some time in "an upscale setting" though I don't agree that the services are particularly upscale. It seems to depend on the girl and how you get on with her. I felt I was paying for the bathroom at Energy (it's nice, but so is my hotel), and the service I had was poorer than I've had at cheaper casas. I don't know of any Medellin casas that I would call really upmarket when service it taken into account (and 260 K at Loutron without even getting BBBJ strikes me as frankly outrageous). I agree though that if you are in a city on a business trip it can be too much of a jump to go down to the cheapest of places. If you have to walk out of the hotel in a decent suit the last thing you want is a place with nowhere to hang it and water all over the bathroom floor (or no bathroom!
Back onto the list, it would be a valuable service if one of the Paisas or long-time Medellin mongers tidied it up a bit. New Life, for instance, is listed at least twice, there is a meaningless distinction between a section on "Casas-Salas de Masajes (meeting places for massage)" and then a separate section on "Erotic Massage / Casas". A casa is simply a house where (in this context) men pay women for sex, and the examples listed as erotic massage are no different to the ones called "meeting places. " Then there's the thing where half of it is written in Spanish and half in English. "Calle", "Carrera" are essential but days of the week appearing in Spanish have probably just been copied from a Colombian forum. (It's quite possible for guys with zero Spanish to do Medellin: why make it harder!

Thus report is not intended to indicate overall quality, which is mostly luck of the draw and when you happen to go. The choice is probably more about the type of place you'd choose to frequent. Three random recent visits.
FASE II. Crr. 44, #30-27, San Diego. I was seriously disappointed. Paid the brute on the door to get in, paid a ridiculous price for a beer, and out of about ten girls spread about the place only two looked doable and neither had a particularly brilliant attitude. First girl on stage, after a long wait, basically walked up and down a few times and that's all. The next, only slightly more attractive, did make a feeble attempt at swinging on a pole before leaving the stage and hurrying over for a tip. Her act had been rubbish, there was zero attempt at sexiness or audience interaction, and neither did anyone get to see very much. I told her I was about to leave and she again asked for a tip. I looked her squarely and said kindly that her dance wasn't very good (that was mild, out of hundreds of strip clubs I can't honestly think of a worse dance). Left.
CONEJITAS. Crr. 52, #53-03, a few yards from Paque Berrio Metro. This is tourist-trap (or any other idiot-trap) central, although with occasional gems in the dust. Not the nicest of streets at night. Smell of [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) increases as you go further from the Metro. Bouncer on the door rings a loud bell as a customer enters. Apparently the signal for the women to get off whatever piece of furniture they are asleep on and look lively (most of them managed the first bit). Another of these darkly lit bars downstairs. I can barely see that the unattractive young and not-so-young ladies are ladies, much less the difference between one peso bill and another. Worst of the three.
UPSTAIRS BAR, CRR. 53. Sorry, I didn't check the name, but there's only one. It's on a corner as you wander along Carrera 53 from Calle 53. I'd just enjoyed a beer at Tony's a nice place to hang out where you can flirt, size up local malandros and they assure themselves that you are not a mark or whatever. The upstairs strip bar is on the same side, on a corner on the left, as you continue in the direction of the Museum, Prado, etc. A few uglies but plenty of nice looking girls. Good strip show while another girl tempted me quite successfully by dancing fully clothed but being very sexy and no pressure.
Easy to see which I like, but others will tell you only the devil when he's drunk will go down Calle 53.

They came out one by one and said their names. I would rate the girls between 4 - 7. I should say I look for lighter skin and not flaca in general. I selected Tanya. So I followed one of the Ladies to the second floor to my room. The room was bright, clean and nice with shower. The session with Tanya was good, she was nice and friendly but not GFE and of course everything covered. The cost for one hour is 130 k, plus 2 k for water. I will return to this place when / if I return to Medellin again.
The second casa I went to was Abydos. That was on a Wednesday afternoon. I took the metro to Exposiciones Station and then a short taxi ride to the place. This is on calle 33. If you like aquarium and fish, visit Parque Explora. The ticket is 22 k.

I went to Fase Dos last night at about 11 PM.
I was not too impressed. 20 or so chicks. Mostly thick-lots of chunky fat legs and huge asses. Some small tits, some really really fake tits. I went to Fase Dos last night at about 11 PM.

It's like monopoly money there. You need to either pull money from an ATM which will spit local currency or visit a currency exchange. There is one on the main drag (Calle 10 I think) a block north of Parque Lleras. It's on the south side of that main drag.

If you are more adventurous take a cab to Parque Bolivar (pronounced Parkay Bow-LEE-var) in El Centro and walk two or three blocks in each direction. Abydos and Energy are definitely way higher in average level of talent. If you need more eye candy, try the high level strip clubs. Yeah there is google translate now, but honestly it's not much enjoyment for the chica when you're trying to enter in something after everything she says. Because the time that it takes, she could easily go with another guy that is able to move at 100 mph while you're still getting out of the parking lot. There is of course the thought process that in the end it's all about money but girls in Medellin are a little more difficult than other places, and in order to have a good time I think being able to speak some conversation spanish is a must. My only concern reading through the Medellin reports in general is the number referencing CBJs and not-so-hot girls, as well as limited services.

I wonder if you guys could help me choose a proper place for accommodation. I will be coming to Medellin in October for a few days (4/5 nights).
I have obvioulsy read the various reports on the Mansion but I got the impression it's a US-focused place that caters mostly to mongers that are interested in "seeing" girls 24/7. I also have heard of Colombia Jake (who I believe is on ISG) but, again, it seems to me that he is a service-provider heavily oriented toward P4 P which sounds like a perfectly nice way to spend time (especially when it comes to Jake's date services), it's just not 100% what I am after.
My stint in MDE is part of a larger 2-week tour of Colombia. That's why I am hoping to see the City and its surrounding areas during the day and play at night.
I am not particularly comfortable with brothels (personal taste that's all) so would be looking to score on a 1-on-1 basis and then bring her back to my place. You can take anyone back to Mansion but a non-p4 p might be less than impressed with its p4 p-friendliness. It's in an excellent location for good restaurants and shops. Lleras Parque, the main nightlife and (mainly non-p4 p) hookup area is a short cab drive away. I'd say it's mostly under-30's but you might like that area if you have good game in Spanish.
There are non-Poblado locations that are are less 'artificial' with nightlife but time is a major factor for you in getting to know Medellin. Poblado is not very central and it's Metro station (unlike, say, Estadio) is a taxi ride from main strips like Lleras. It's hard to advise without knowing your style. Backpacker-types might prefer somewhere more downtown for seeing museums, art, and rapid connections to places. Whereas in Poblado you can be a tourist that is waited on, just pay for everything, and everything is more straightforward. Taxis in Poblado have GPS and you are unlikely to get mugged there or ripped off unless you are very unlucky or lacking in care. In other words, if in doubt, Poblado is usually the 'default' recommendation.

If you make a reservation for 2, you at least have a good chance of not being charged for your extra guest. Keep in mind though, that's one guest and only one guest. So if you come back with a new girl, that's a hit or miss with hotels on allowing the girl to just register vs. A girl registering and you getting charged. I stayed at Park 10 last month which is a one of the better hotels in Poblado, first chica registered. No issue there. No charge on that. When I came back with another woman by my side, the same front desk employee having recognized me from the night before let me know there would be a charge for this as I'm bringing back another guest. I let him know my reservation is for two, and he let me know that yes it's for two but if you are changing up guests then there's a charge. I didn't want to spend time arguing on it, and just asked the guy to give me the form to sign, take her ID copy, and let me get on my way. The same thing had happened at the Hotel Diez, although I was able to get through one night with a chica and not having to register. But most hotels will have someone right outside the entrance (security) and then you have the front desk. If you find a hotel where the lobby is large enough and the elevators in a location where you don't pass by the front desk, you might be OK there. Otherwise you can expect the same as I did.
If you read the hotels list section, you can see some suggestions there. One decent hotel which does not seem to have an issue with bringing girls back is the Art Hotel.

I would describe the area around Mansion as safer than most. But anywhere in Poblado is not like walking across Parque Berrio late at night. (Though take care around Poblado Metro station -- just my opinion.).
I've stayed in different hotels in different areas and one of the best lines I heard was someone checking in who said politely but quietly, "and is it ok if I bring a companion back?" Apart from that the list is probably a good guide, just do some reading.

I found this mountain biking tour but its horrendously expensive for one person (400 Mil), which would otherwise keep me covered in Mansion girls for the length of the 4 hour bike ride! Keep in mind Medellin is only about 5000 feet high (1500 meters), that's like Denver. This is not Quito / Cusco / La Paz or even Bogota / Cuenca / Arequipa. For intense exercise it's relevant, but otherwise I think few people would even notice a difference. I don't. Altitude symptoms are usually not relevant until 8000 ft. As someone said, for serious mountain biking, it's something to consider, but you might also be at a significantly higher altitude depending on where the trail is. Down in the valley with a buxom college girl, well, it's not exactly scaling Mt. Everest. Also, if you mean training ahead of time, I don't think there's anything you can really do to prepare for altitude changes, that's why even peak athletes struggle with thinner air.

Good luck I'll be here till Sept. 3, but in Cartegena 15-20th, you can YouTube free outside gym in Medellin Colombia Poblado and see I'm not the only one has this problem. CheersIf the 5 k foot altitude of Medellin does not get to you try Bogota, ouch they are pushing 9,000 feet. Even in my prime 25 +/- years ago on my first visit to Bogota it took me 3 solid days to get adjusted.
I too come from low lying beach area of Southern California and even in Medellin it takes me a few days. I have hard time sleeping and am light headed and I am not even exerting myself.

I am told that what use to take 1 hour taxi ride is now 2. 5 hours because of that major road / park improvement construction. And with the presidents lack of leadership the banditos are again in full force like they use to in years back.

Typical big city problems. Use the metro. Big cities around the world that lack major infrastructure always have traffic issues, heck even ones with excellent infrastructure have issues but they just offer more public transportation options.
If one is scared of a little bit of traffic, and does not know how to blend in or reduce the ability of them being a target of banditos (if you're showing off your big watch or your fat wallet sticking out of your back pocket or carrying something that can be snatched away) then you might as well stay home.

I don't about the mountains in Medellin area, but in the city itself I or any of my friends have never had a problem with adjusting to the altitude.If your doing any kind of aerobic exercise which dramatically increases your heart rate such as lap swimming, running, bicycling, etc. I think most people will notice the thinness of the air for the first days and the workout / exercise will be more tiring but you can get acclimated fairly quickly, at least that was my experience on my last trip.
It's easy to overstate it. There are one or two places where traffic seems to get stuck often, near Lleras, or continuously in parts of downtown; but a taxi from downtown to Poblado can take thirty minutes or an hour and a lot seems like luck. Taxis are so cheap that it is easy to get addicted rather than walking a little way from a Metro, although from point-to-point of course the Metros are quicker BUT if you don't have a pre-paid card you can waste a lot of time queuing for a ticket in rush hour. You get used to it a bit. I cursed it a few times this year but then just thought, so what? I usually would buy half a dozen at a time and buy tickets when there where no long lines. The worst time to travel from El Centro to Poblado was during rush hour after work on weekdays, and in fact finding a taxi at this time is challenging as well. I found it best to take the Metro during rush hour times to and from Poblado, however sometimes it was a challenge to get into the "cars" and be squished like a sardine in a can.
The worst traffic jams I saw where on Calle 10 from the Poblado Metro Station up the hill to the Parque Lleras area but this was last month when they were widening and improving the sidewalks which closed down a lane, hopefully that has been completed but it seemed like a very slow project when I was there. The Metro is the way to go whenever possible and yes the taxis are cheap enough. I typically used them when leaving El Centro late at night after the Metro closed.
I am in MDE from Aug 30th to Sept 6th. I found this mountain biking tour but its horrendously expensive for one person (400 Mil), which would otherwise keep me covered in Mansion girls for the length of the 4 hour bike ride! Its the same price for two people (200 Mil each) so wondering if anyone wanted to go at the same time to keep the costs down.

I don't think the elevation would be a problem for anyone as this tour is 15 miles and seems to follow an old railroad track, so you clearly aren't going to be doing steep climbs. However the price seems off the hook for a 15 mile bike ride that is just a 45 minute drive from Medellin. For your reference, I did a guided city bike tour that was about 4 hours, and with bike rental and lunch it was about 50,000 COP (maybe less, can't recall). If you are looking to do normal tourist activities, I would strongly recommend that you go to one of the hostels in Poblado. They all have front desk staff who speak English and they all seem to have an activities book filled with guided activities they will sell tickets for. Common things are the Pablo Escobar tours (didn't do it), paragliding (excellent, give it a try) and city & mountain bike tours. There are also 1-2 day tours to places outside Medellin Check out the following hostel websites - www.blacksheepmedellin.com (an Aussie / NZ place I think. Very nice hostel close to Park Lleras) and www.casablancamedellin.com (an Israeli place also in Poblado. In the Patio Bonito neighborhood. Downhill a few blocks El Poblado road almost at Las Vegas). The hostels are not viable options for places to stay as they all seem to have signs about guests not being allowed in the rooms, but if you walk in and just ask about tickets for activities, they are very helpful (clearly getting a commission for selling the tickets). The front desk people at the Mansion are also very helpful. They sell SIM cards and help order food, so they might also help with general tourist activities, I just never thought to ask them about it. Finally, on Sunday mornings until about noon or 1 pm they close off a lane of El Poblado ave and everyone bikes, runs or walks, there are plenty of people out renting bikes. Its worth doing if you like to bike, you can bike well past El Centro and then on to other closed off roads. The veterans on this board are far more qualified to talk about the girls in town, but as a relative newbie I thought I could at least offer something useful on general tourist stuff if you want to take a break from the girls. You can buy a SIM card in Rionegro just like any other airport in the world. The kiosks stay open as long as flights are arriving. Installing it in your phone on the way down into the city is a nice way to make the trip go faster.

I don't agree about El Poblado being the best choice in terms of safety from muggings. It is known as a tourist area and that attracts thieves. I feel safer in Laureles, for example. It is also a very nice area but not as popular with tourists.Yes, except the issue with Laurles is it is all flat lands so if someone comes by it's easier for them to get away because there are no hills to run up. Even in motorcycles it's harder to grab & dash when dealing with hills rather then the flats of Laurles area. That said, I think anywhere you have to use caution. I have lived all over and I can say if you are in a hilly area in Poblado you have very very slim chance of getting mugged.

Love this place, very excepting great people and women all dressed to the nines so your working girls are camouflaged. Just to remind I'm in Poblado area. Turns out I stay right across road from Jake. I keep seeing guys coming to town and hanging at the bars with their buddy! I ask them wouldn't it be more fun with a girl in your arms? They tell me yes I can do this in the USA! I wish I knew how to orchestrate a girlfriend experience, but I just don't know how. I'm here for you, and as you can read for yourself it beats the heck out of doing the same old nothing!

Someone told me about Charlee hotel but I am not sure.
This is common in many other countries including Panama.
Definitely short sleeve shirts (because of the weather), casual shoes, jeans, NO t-shirts, and bring a cap-hat to guard against the suns rays.

In all the pictures I've seen so far everyone is wearing jeans or pants. I'm from the northern half of the states and with the temperatures they have in MDE I would prefer to wear shorts.
Will I stick out like a sore thumb if I'm in shorts?
Button up collared shirts only and dark dress shoes when going out at night?
So what I guess I'm trying to ask is what is the proper dress code for Medellin?

LRIt usually is only hot for an hour or two in the mid afternoon. Mornings and evenings are pleasant and you will be comfortable in long pants. Yes, it would be nice to wear shorts during the day but you will stick out.
