Well a while back a guide with a lot of experence had I think 4 Oriental gentlemen with him, and they were robbed in Poblado.Actually, I think that incident was with Frank Casio and he was coming from the metro station to Mayorista not Poblado. That being said, Medellin is dangerous. I am not a belligerent person yet on three separate occasions I have had disagreements with overly aggressive Colombian guys who think they can paw my date. Any one of those could have gone south real quick if guns were involved.

How hot will Medellin, Colombig get in 2008?
According to government figures, about 1 million international tourists visit Colombia every year. Officials are expected to see that double in the coming years as word gets out from travelers returning home, spreading the word about Colombia's picturesque landscapes, tropical rainforest, snow-capped Andean peaks towering over countless valleys throughout Colombia. . In addition, its beautiful Caribbean and Pacific coasts, with plenty of warm beaches are other great destinations. A traveler's dream come true.
I have my next trip booked for January when the bullfights start, Pablo Escobar's Hacienda Napoles is opened to the public, Parque Norte Amusement Park opened earlier this month, as well as Parque Explora.
I suggest findging yourself a lovely lady to take you on a private tour of Medellin, the city of eternal spring.

National Geographic Adventures announced Colombia as one of the top destination for 2008, but I don't think they were talking about the growing P$P scene!

RodeoThe rainy season has 2 parts: Oct. & Nov. And May. This year the rainy season has extended through tomorrow, maybe longer.
The Medellín metro area has around 3. 3 million people. There are always plenty of girls.
Nothing to do with Miss Colombia happens in MDE. They probably have a pageant for Miss Antioquia here though.
You can hook up with telenovela stars stars if you have the right contacts and a boatload of money. I have neither.
Bull fights start in Jan. Until when does the bull fight season last?

The FDF does require you to book your room early because MDE does crowd up significantly. There is such a great and festive atmosphere to the entire event with various parades and other events happening all over the city. My favorite is the Drunken Horse Parade, the horses aren't drunk but many of the riders are. You just can't beat the combination of a hot woman on a beautiful horse. On the day of the DHP I was out from 11 am till 4 the next morning. I never saw any fights or arguments like you see in NO during Mardi Gras. I ended up meeting 4 Paisitas (reg. chicas) 1 of which who had a car and partying with them in Sabaneta. During the parade I would have perfect strangers pass me their bottles of aguardiente for me to take a shot once they realizes I was visiting from out of country.
I loved the FDF! It was one of the absolute best times I have ever had!

I'd stay away from Easter week and the week after Christmas until about mid-Jan.
As far as the pros go, lots of them leave to stay with family at that time.

I believe the chica in 2 photos below is from "De Greiff Show", located directly across the street from the Plaza Botero and less than a block down from the Hotel Nutibarra. She has some flaws, though I was satisfied with my selection. Las Gatas, Grill Occidental, Conejitas, and a few other clubs are all located within 2 blocks of this one.
Grill Occidental has gone downhill. I've found some gems in this club in the past year, but now there's much less talent. There is new management, which appears to have links to the drug trade. I've seen plenty of club chicas doing coke, but I was shocked by how many of them were openly snorting on the tables.
The price for 30 minutes with a chica in these clubs/grills/shows is between 30, 000 and 40, 000 and that includes BBBJ, photos, and daty if you want it.
I noticed a definite reduction in the number of chicas roaming the streets in the weeks leading up to Xmas. In fact, I was shocked to see how few chicas there were a few nights in front of El Faro Bar. I've already posted a few of these photos of Johanna, but she can be found these days around El Faro from 4-9 pm. She comes highly recommended.

Flower Festival is the first 10 days in August (although in 2007 it included the last 2 days of July).
Miss Colombia pagent is in January in Cartagena. Not sure when the practices start in Mde.
There are two rainy seasons. Oct-Dec and Feb-March. The rest of the time it only rains occasionally and for brief periods.

I've researched MDE as well for a trip later this year, maybe Aug or Sept. Answer I got is that Flower Festival ain't bad, but they suggested another week for first visit. Three day weekends seem like a good bet. Here's a list of holidays for 2008.

Basically, Flower Festival is more crowded in terms of traffic, waiting lines, airport, hotel rates go up, etc. And it sounds like paisas party no more or no less during the festival.
As for rainy season, I've read it's generally between Sept. to Nov. and Jan to Mar. But not like a monsoon season, so it may not be as wide a swing as it sounds.
As for bests, lots of threads here. Much better than the Panama board. Oh yeah, if you want to see some replies fly on this board, ask about investing in real estate :>).
Sounds like Mango's, Kukaramakara and Palmitas are good dance clubs to check out. Loutron's is the high end puteria, much cheaper than PTY.
Another option here is to stay at a place like Mansion or VIP for first visit (or rent one of their apartments) and have those guys give you a lay of the land. Or two..

No matter what dates or criterion I put into Travelocity I cannot find a carrier with business class service. I am flying out of Dulles (IAD) which is long enough to justify the expense in my mind, but apparently no one flies from Washington to Colombia in style.
What gives? Can someone explain what I must do to avoid flying in a puddle jumper next to someone and their clucking chicken?

I'm pretty sure a bloke got shot at the last FDF. MDE has a metro population of 3. 3 million. I don't follow shooting stats, but I'm guessing that there is a fair chance that someone would be shot in any particular week.

Nice report Cornbread. I can also say I am probably in that 20% you talked about. I am not bragging, I just am and I realize it. Having probably above average looks, and maybe very decent looks, I can say that it does help you pick up the ladies. I think it probably only gets you about 5 minutes of face-time. The rest is up to you. Confidence can be derived from the way you real about your looks or something else. I can say that the girls in Medellin from good families care more about social status than anything else. As a gringo you'll have more success with a hot shop worker in the mall than a rich girl in Parque Lleras with her friends. Ultimately women are social climbers and in the end it is what you can do for them that is the most important.
Finally, I wanted to comment on the body language thing. When you are talking to a girl and her body is pointed away from you then abandon ship. That's the little I know.

All the Medellin properties here on the ISG seem to be stunning! Matter of fact, the ones I have seen personally are stunning. But I think their are plenty of folks here that can live with a 42" lcd instead of a 50+ plasma, and a nicely appointed tile bathroom instead of "italian marble. The Medellin condo my travel buddies and I rented and have since purchased together is in a safe area of Poblado and is very comfortable, but is probably not "suitable for royalty". I believe if someone opened a safe, clean, $50. 00 a night place, it would stay full. But I guess there is no reason to, if the $100. 00 a night places are staying packed. Running a business out of the country is alot of stress, and I guess they deserve every penny they charge.

The new year's party just finished yesterday and I’m back to Medellin!
I arrived around 2:30pm at my hotel and left within the next 30 minutes to the center
Acuerpado in one of his post said that he likes Alejas and New Life, so I decided to check those 2 places.
I first arrive to New Life (Calle 56 43-39) and passed the 2 gates, climbed the stairs and finally reached the place.

Too Jaded, try again. You should be able to get a business class ticket from Miami to Medellin on both American and Avianca. You should have no problem getting a IAD/MDE business class ticket on American's web site. If you use Avianca for MIA/MDE, you may need to go through a travel agent or book two tickets.

I have looked at all of the regular hotels listed for Medellin by Google search, and travel sites, and am having trouble coming up with something that I like...especially one without a chica fee, which I find very annoying.
I'm looking for a very nice room with some space, nice well-located hotel that can be small but has a bit of a wow factor. Prefer not to be around a lot of other US tourists, something that feels like it's local, Spanish, etc. Breakfast would be nice?
Any seasoned Medellin travelers have any interesting suggestions. Any intel on renting a nice apartment with services for 3 to 4 days...might be interesting...

I always seem to end up at Afrodita's when I tour the casas to the north and east of the Parque Bolivar. Although the location hasn't changed, I think they're now calling themselves Masajes Zandalay. The lineup is never the best though I've found some gems here. Here are some photos of Gina, a really good performer.

You should be able to speak some Espanol. A very pleasant staff, attached restaurant/bar which serves up free breakfast, wifi service and desktop available, laundry, a mix of tourists from around the world, chica friendly, mini-fridge loaded with goodies the chicas all seemed to love without charging you an arm and a leg for the beers and snacks, NO CHICA FEE, also two blocks to supermarket Carrefour, a short walk to Oviedo mall. In my 21 day trip. I finally learned my way around MDE. And feel quite comfortable getting around. I'd recomend anyone just study a map for awhile. To get an idea of where your at. Since I'm ex military. I guess maps just are part of my life. As are my new MDE ho's. What a trip! How many of you guys were at Mango new years Eve? . Danced "barely" till 7am. Couldn't wait to get the fuck out! But you know how are chicks are. They dance till the music stops.

Try American Airlines if you want to fly Business class to Medellin. I have used AA to fly to MDE using Business Class and paid with frequent flier miles (60K).
It has taken a lot of time and hard work to make this map.
I made this map from the original Medellin Map. I scanned the map and adjusted the size.
I have added all of the casas to the map in there correct location with address. All of the main streets are in dark yellow. Togehter with colombian friends I am adding other important parts. Like shopping centers, good restaurants, discotecs, churchs, sport places, bus terminals, universities, and, and and.
At moment I am creating a general Map for Medellin. From the bus terminal norte still at Itagui/Envigado at the sur. Within genreal map I will add different smaller maps center of each individual area. Includingone from Laureles and one from Poblado, with detail information. First I will finish all of the detailed maps and then I will add in more information about hotels and other important places. Within the next 2 months I will have all of the maps with detailed information.
Yesterday I went with El Castillo and took photos of all the front doors and addresses of each casa to make it easier to find The idea is to have more înformation on the back of the map

I made this map from the original Medellin Map. I scanned the map and adjusted the size.
I have added all of the casas to the map in there correct location with address. All of the main streets are in dark yellow. Togehter with colombian friends I am adding other important parts. Like shopping centers, good restaurants, discotecs, churchs, sport places, bus terminals, universities, and, and and.
At moment I am creating a general Map for Medellin. From the bus terminal norte still at Itagui/Envigado at the sur. Within genreal map I will add different smaller maps center of each individual area. Includingone from Laureles and one from Poblado, with detail information. First I will finish all of the detailed maps and then I will add in more information about hotels and other important places. Within the next 2 months I will have all of the maps with detailed information.
Yesterday I went with El Castillo and took photos of all the front doors and addresses of each casa to make it easier to find The idea is to have more înformation on the back of the map

I have already visited the "Spanish" one at the top of the Metro Cable and it has been so far the most impressive one for Architecture.
I wanted to know the other one and fixed a meeting with Karen at the Botero’s café from where we would go and visit these places.
We met around 2pm and took the metro to see our first library of the day: San Javier.
It was not very far from the center but we had to take a short ride in Taxi to get there.

That morning, I was free and decided to visit the botanical garden of Medellin.
I arrived there by taxi around 9:30 pm, paid my entrance fee (4K) and start the visit. The garden is under restoration and is part of the big decision, taken by the former Mayor of Medellin, to have one of the best Botanical Garden in the world!

Here is the deal. I understand that these Former American Residents that are now so called independent drivers in Medellin are trying to make a buck and thats great! I have no problem whatsoever if a guy is trying to make a buck. But HOW much is fair?
With that said, I feel that I myself have had bad experiences with a few of these "drivers". First I will state that I'm Latin and speak Spanish and DO not require translator services. I would start off using a guy to pick me up at the airport. I do not know about you guys but after I just traveled 10 hours to get to Medellin but its a little disturbing to be sitting there waiting for the guy to show up only to give some lame ass excuse why he isn't on time. Jose Lima stated that some of the drivers make statements like "Hey bro we are friends". I believe they are tooooooo comfortable and forget they are hired help! This is why I change up drivers.
In the event you use another driver for anything they get all bent out of shape. I tell them that I do NOT put all my eggs in one basket and like to share my business with a few drivers thereby doing my best to keep them honest for us all! Just recently (As Jose Lima eluded too) I used a driver and I told him that if he wanted to join us for a FREE meal at a nice restaurant with my chick or he could wait out in the car but he could'nt have both. Meaning I pay 20K an hour and I pay his bill at the Restaurant too? NO way! I already have a date!
I think what I'm getting at here is that they need to remember that they (Taxi Drivers) left the USA and are NOW working in Colombia. To address the usual arguments:
1. If a guy wants to engage in sex without using a condom, that's his risk and his business.
2. If a girl wants to engage in sex without using a condom, that's her risk and her business.
3. If YOU want to protect yourself from either or both of the aforementioned parties, then YOU should use a condom for sex all the time and thus YOU will be protected from the allegedly unsafe sex practices of the other parties.

Jose Ma Cordoba is outside Medellin, 30 min ride, in a close town called Rionegro. Olaya is in Medellin. The first one attends national and intl. flights, and large planes. The second is local (regional), mostly for Cessnas, Fokkers and other small airplanes, as well as helicopters. Due to the fact that Medellin is a basin, surrounded by mountains on all sides, this first airport has reported lots of accidents, reason for the construction of the other one outside.

Thank you.JMC is the international airport in Rio Negro about 30 KM outside the city. Most airlines fly here. The other airport is in Medellin and only a few airlines fly there and with smaller planes. No international traffc.

Jose Maria Cordova Airport (MDE) is in Rio Negro, approximately 45 minutes by cab from Poblado. This airport handles international as well as domestic flights. Airlines such as American, Avianca, and Copa/Aero Republica service this airport.
Olaya Herrera Domestic Airport (EOH) is located a couple of miles from the Medellin Mansion or VIP, but it is only for domestic travel in Colombia. Only 3 airlines service this airport. Aides, Aires, and Satena. If you don't like flying in small planes, best to fly out of MDE for your domestic travel in Colombia.

I did this and found out that my lawyer was 8 times higher than the going rate. The quote from this business owner was something like (and I am paraphrasing)...."use this lawyer, he is good, speaks English, and doesn't charge gringo prices".
Certainly I can't prove it, but I imagine there was a kick-back to this business owner because the rumor is that he gets big kick-backs from everyone he recommends to his gringo customers. Some of this is certainly understood but out-right lies about the prices is a little suspect. I am not going to name names but if you need a lawyer ask around while you're in Medellin with your broken Spanish. You're likely to find a better lawyer than your trusted native English speaking B&B owner(s). They are not your friend, they're there to suck dry you like any other Colombian who sees a gringo.

I can only speak for me ¨Aussie Greg¨ and not the company that I help out. I have at times given my lawyer's telephone number to people I meet then its up to them and the lawyer, I really don't give a fuck what they are doing as I'm busy with my own situation, I just try to help out.
I'm happy with my lawyer and I also have another lawyer to keep him honest with prices etc and check on what he is doing is correct and what I want. I have also sent people I meet to dentists and plastic surgens that I use.
I have never been given any payment from my lawyer, dentist and plastic surgen, I must say that my denist does give me a discount on my own teeth when I need work and also my plastic surgen does give me a good price on all my girlfriends with there titty jobs (I'm up to 3 now! ) but I have never been given any cash/commission from the above and or any commission from any working girl.
So entonces, if your unhappy with your own situation, change your lawyer! or go back home, its a simple as that.

I think that it's not that simple.
Jose Marie Cordova (MDE) is an "out of town" airport.
Once there, it takes 45 minutes of a tortuous road to arrive to Medellin.
Enrique Olaya Herrera (EOH) is an "in town" airport.
Once there, you are in Medellin.
In fact, it all depends on where you arrive in Colombia.
If your landing point is Bogota, you may consider to go to EOH.
I use EOH at 90% when I go to Medellin from Bogota.
Now EOH has some bad figures.
It operates from 6am till 5:30pm
After that, if for any reason your plane has not left, you have to go to MDE to found a late plane.
Only small planes are allowed to land at EOH (remember this airport is in Medellin, very close from the Poblado).
I use Satena, an army air company, with good planes (Dornier 30 seats, Embraer 50 seats)
I think Aires goes there as well.
Satena is a local company and for what I know, you can't buy tickets from outside...
One more thing, if you arrive to Bogota International airport, you have to go to the other terminal (Puente Aereo) to go to Medellin with Avianca (Colombian biggest and very good Air company). You will have to take a bus after getting your luggages (custom clearance). The bus is free and goes to the other terminal in 5 minutes, driving in the internals airport's roads. Average time to wait for the bus : 7 minutes.
If you use Satena, you don't have to take a bus, just get in the airport and there they are right in the middle.

One more thing you may consider :
Bog => MDE with Avianca : 50 minutes
MDE => Medellin by road : 45 minutes
Total time : 95 minutes
BOG => EOH with Satena : 30 minutes and there you are !!!
Of course, it also depends on when your plane arrives at Bogota and the connexion you may have.
One more thing : It's not easy to have a seat on Satena as they are full most of the time. You have to make an early reservation.

The small planes aren't that bad. I have flown Aires BOG-MDE and MDE-CTG. In each case the plane was a 37-passenger turbo-prop with plenty of carry-on room.
Aires has flights efvery few hours serving BOG, MDE and CTG. However, they are rarely non-stop. MDE-CTG stops in Monteria long enough to let people on and off. BOG-MDE stops in Ibagué for an hour or two.

A couple of months ago a Australian guy living in Medellin gave me a call to come around to say hi, he came around and we had a bit of a chat and his is his story.
He's married a Colombian girl with 2 children and the Family Court said no, you carnt take the kids out of the country until after 1 year so we can see that your marriage is a steady one and that every thing is going well, apply in another year and we will see again, even the father of the children said it was fine the children go to Aussie Land.
He is a Pastry Chef by trade, also worked in outback stations (farms) as a manager and also entertainment director at tourist farms etc.
He and his wife started a fast food little resturant over on 80th Ave, being going a month now earing enough to pay the rent etc. He works at the Rest from 10.00am to 6.00pm then the wife comes in from 6.00pm to 10.00-12.00 pm.

Also, speaking of your post, there is still one thing that is confusing to me. The first thing you say is that commission is a way of life in Colombia, gringo or not, then you turn right around an deny that you receive any commission. Are you saying that while other gringos living here are looking to make commissions off other unsuspecting gringos, you are not? If so then isn't it reasonable to assume that I could be talking about them and not you?
Like I said, whether you do or don't, it's your own business. I was simply pointing out what you said, that gringo or Colombian, there are people trying to make commission by recommending high priced people to line their pockets. Avianca from bogota to medellin and back was a jet all three times I have flown it, I think it was a 737 but can't say for sure, but there was no turbulence on any trip. On the avianca site it lists the aircraft type for each leg of every flight.Turbulence is hit or miss. I flew Avianca once from CLO to MDE. The plane was a turbo-prop. We hit the worst turbulence I have ever experienced in my life.
MDE-CTG uses turbo-props also. In 6 or 8 trips, I don't recall any turbulence.
I also flew MDE-BOG RT on an Aires turbo-prop without any problem.

99.9% of any deal that is referred by people to people in Colombia commission is involved (thats just my opinion and its a way of life here)
Its a interesting subject, the price or quote for a job/deal, it depends on the deal but my secretary says between 10 - 20% of the agreed price.
She should know, she knows all the important people here in Medellin and also the people you dont really want to know.

Also, speaking of your post, there is still one thing that is confusing to me. The first thing you say is that commission is a way of life in Colombia, gringo or not, then you turn right around an deny that you receive any commission. Are you saying that while other gringos living here are looking to make commissions off other unsuspecting gringos, you are not? If so then isn't it reasonable to assume that I could be talking about them and not you?
Like I said, whether you do or don't, it's your own business. I was simply pointing out what you said, that gringo or Colombian, there are people trying to make commission by recommending high priced people to line their pockets. I was simply pointing it out before anyone else makes this mistake. I am sure you can understand that being a person who plays it straight up.

I have taken a 737 from Bogota to Medellin twice. I believe that the flight goes onto Miami. On one of those trips the plane was hit by a sudden downdraft (anyone not wearing a seatbelt almost bounced off the ceiling). It was so violent that everyone crossed themselves.

A couple of months ago a Australian guy living in Medellin gave me a call to come around to say hi, he came around and we had a bit of a chat and his is his story.

On the avianca site it lists the aircraft type for each leg of every flight.I don't think Avianca has any 737, just MD-80 for the flights between MDE and Bog. Lots of Prop planes when I went to Cartagena and Cali. Fokker 50.

Colombia does have bad turbulence at times due to high amount of storm development and also becouse of the up and down drafts from the hills.

Turbulence is hit or miss. I flew Avianca once from CLO to MDE. The plane was a turbo-prop. We hit the worst turbulence I have ever experienced in my life.
MDE-CTG uses turbo-props also. In 6 or 8 trips, I don't recall any turbulence.
I also flew MDE-BOG RT on an Aires turbo-prop without any problem.I've flown MDE to Barranquilla R/T with Avianca twice using the Fokker turboprop, a far superior/roomier puddle jumper IMO to the twin turbo that American Eagle uses -an Embraer I think - in the states. No turbulence on my two flights but that is dependant on actual weather conditions.

Turbulence! On my first flight to Medellin on an AeroRepublica MD80 between PTY and MDE, the turbulence was so bad that I thought we were going to crash.
It seems that the pilots that fly those smaller planes in latin america are young. Really young. I remember sitting there watching the pilots come onto the plane and wondering if they skateboarded down the jetway. To give you a visual, one was caucasian, tallish and lanky with a shaved head and looked like he belonged in some kind of garage band pounding out Limp Bizkit covers. The other one looked like James Dean's greasy side kick in the movie "Rebel Without A Cause. " Both had I'll-fitting uniforms that made them look like they were trying on their dad's stuff.
Seriously. If you pointed those two out in a crowd and told me to guess whether they were airline pilots or worked at Papa Johns pizza, I would have guessed the latter. I try not to judge. But, to tell you the truth, I have similar distrust when I see a female pilot get on the flight. For some reason, I just don't like it.
But I knew we were in trouble when the flight out of PTY was delayed because they couldn't start the engines. From my aisle seat, I could see straight down into the cockpit and the two young pilots feverishly grabbing, pushing buttons as they went through their pre-flight routine. After a while, the two of them looked like they were arguing as they were both pointing at pages in their respective pre-flight books and holding them up so the other could see. I'm very comfortable flying, and I travel a lot. But now I'm getting nervous.
I got seriously nervous when---I shit you not!.--I looked forward at one point to see one of the flight attendants in the cockpit talking to the pilots and pointing to switches and buttons on the panel above them. WTF! Is the flight attendant really giving them instructions on how to start the fatcking plane? I couldn't hear what they were saying, but their spastic interactions reminded me of a silly Cary Grant / Katherine Hepburn movie. This can't be happening.
The flight attendant was hot, by the way.
One of the other flight attendants (also hot) must have looked down the aisle and saw looks of confusion and absolute horror on the passengers' faces. Because she quickly pulled a curtain closed so you couldn't see down the aisle into the cockpit anymore. After about an hour, and a visit from a mechanic, the engines started and we were off.
Somewhere mid-flight we hit some weather. I remember looking out the window and seeing several serious looking cumulonimbus storm clouds out there. And then the tubulence started. Like sex, the turbulence started out rythmicly slow and bumpy but eventually felt like the plane was having a series of gran mal seizures. We must have hit one of those storm clouds because the turbulance got so bad that things started falling all over the place. We hit a couple of the biggest air pockets I've ever felt and the plane started falling twice. Falling far.
People were screaming, flight attendants scurried back to their jump seats, I started going through that same routine: "If I die right now, did I live a good and full life? ". I already had images of CNN footage of this MD80 littered all over the mountains below us. Then the tubulence stopped suddenly. The remainder of the flight was uneventful and everyone calmed down. That is, until we landed.
MDE is a funky little airport nestled in the mountains. It seems like one moment you're high altitude, and the next you only 100 ft above the ground. So I'm looking out the window across from me at one point and I remember telling myself "Wow. Those treetops are coming in really fas. " SLAM! The plane hit the runway so hard that it felt like the plane was going to crack in half. Everyone on the plane screamed again. I think I even let out a "WHOA! " (a manly one, I assure you.).
Needless to say, the pilots didn't come out to greet the passengers as we exited. They didn't even open the cockpit door.
Like I said, I consider myself a pretty fearless flyer, but that flight made me want to avoid Copa on subsequent flights to Medellin. Unfortunately, the LAX--MDE route is so much faster and cheaper than Houston or Miami. So I'm stuck. The next flights to MDE were uneventful. But I still get a little nervous about it.

SchwmmThe problem with those smaller turboprops is they can´t climb as high as the jets, therefore they´re often unable to get above the bumpy stuff.
Also, some of their aircraft are not equipped with weather radar, or it isn´t operating, making it difficult to decipher the weather.

But I still get a little nervous about it.The approach into Medellin is a tricky one, it involves overflying the airport heading south then while making the turn northwards the aircraft is about between ft1000 to ft2000 from a large hill, which is pretty low for a plane flying at 230kts at that point. Once past the high ground around 8miles out the aircraft then needs to loss about ft4000 before landing.
I think maybe one of the reasons the flight attendent was pointing at the overhead panel would becouse on the overhead panel has the controls for the cabin temperature and air con, so I am guessing to was asking the pilot for alittle heat or cooling.
And as for the pilots, to be a pilot in command (Captain) you need atleast 5000 flying hour which can take about 10year plus. Evern if they look young these guys know what they are doing.
Avianca has a good saftey record, when was the last time you heard of an Avianca accident, I belive the last one was back in the early 80s at New York, and the plane ran out of fuel and the engines shut down.
Always remember that flying is the safest way to travel

Yesterday was a day out on the Town for me and Bro N Law so I took the Centro Csa and Massage parlor list and hit the trail! I wanted to see how may I could find and view the available stock within 4 hours. Not many. There are some that are within blocks of eachother but most require 6 to 10 blocks waliking from site to site, add this to Medellins traffic woes and, well you get the idea. First up was Venus as it is an easy find from Metro station Pardo, I frequent the place so I already knew there would be between 2 and 8 girls, true to the course, she had 6 available, 4 fuglies and 2 very doable. Rooms here are basic but clean, very secure, on the floor matress but soft and most important private bathrooms in the room, Downsides, no hot water, and day to day it may be closed due to lack of girls. I have fly with Aires, Aerorepublica, ADA.
Yes, Colombia has a lot of bad weather with strong winds and, of course, a lot of turbulences.
But so What ? Planes are build to resist these kind of weather.
I just take a good book and read, or, even better, sleep.
Smaller planes are really not a problem and I have found pilots to be good.
If you fly ADA, they have Twin Otters with no pressurized cabin, and so what?
Nothing happens and they fly every day.
The most interesting airports I've seen so far are :
1) Pasto
This is really the best place if you're lucky.
It all depends on wind; The airport is located very close from a cliff. If you're lucky, the plane has to land at the other entrance of the runway and you fly under the airport, that means that the plane protect itself from strong winds flying under the cliff's top... If you go there, insist to be seated on the left side in order to see this.
Then, once you passed the airport entrance, the jet climbs some 2 or 300 meters, make a u-turn and land... A real experience !!!
If you're not lucky, the plane land directly and you don't see anything.
Once ther, don't forget to eat cuyes, another experience.
2) Manizales
This airport is really something.
They cut a hill to put the airport.
You mayknow that there are no flat land in that city.
So, you can imagine that the landing piste is very short.
The pilot breaks according to the length of the landing piste.
It's better to hold the front seat.

It was 3pm and I have finished my day. I decided to go for Lorena who at the beginning of January when I did her promised me BBFS for our next session. Time had come for that. The approach into Medellin is a tricky one, it involves overflying the airport heading south then while making the turn northwards the aircraft is about between ft1000 to ft2000 from a large hill, which is pretty low for a plane flying at 230kts at that point. Once past the high ground around 8miles out the aircraft then needs to loss about ft4000 before landing.
I think maybe one of the reasons the flight attendent was pointing at the overhead panel would becouse on the overhead panel has the controls for the cabin temperature and air con, so I am guessing to was asking the pilot for alittle heat or cooling.

Still, I've had pretty good experiences so far with Avianca, and you can't blame the landing on the airline.
The Aerorepublica anecdote is a little troubling. I know that an Aerorepublica plane overran the runway at Santa Marta last year and in Cali in 2005. No fatalities in either incident.
So I'm feeling a bit hesitant to try them now, which is too bad because you can now use OnePass miles to fly on them (Continental ff program).
I don't think Aerorepublica has any flights to the USA, unlike Copa and Avianca, so maybe their standards in certain things are not as stringent. That may help explain why their pilots didn't look as professional as what bombero is used to. But I believe they're slated to start flight to MIA sometime this year so they better get their act together! :)

Rio Negro is around 2500 feet higher than Olaya in Medellín. The real tricky flying is into Olaya.

When I mentioned MDE airport, that's the code for the intl. airport at Rio Negro, the code for Olaya I think is EOH.
I think Olaya closes at dusk, unlike Rio Negro where the flights from Panama City and Miami come in at night. I'd imagine the airport shuts down as well when there's thunderstorms over the valley which as you know is pretty common!

Today was a strak reminder we live in Colombia not small town USA, Yesterday my Brother in law had a meeting with the town people of Belen and Agua Frias. It was a business meeting as we are involved with some enviormental issues in the area. My sister and law called to see how things were going for him so he pulled to the side of the road to speak with her since he was on the road at the time. As he spoke 2 young men on a motorcycle pulled to the side of his vehicle on North hwy / a 96 model Toyota Land Cruiser/ silver in color, and put a gun to the side of his head and demanded the vehicle. He is a pretty tough fellow so he talked shit and they put him to the ground and drove away with the SUV. He survived the attack but now faces a period of time without the truck. The insurance will pay for the vehicle and why he didn't just give it up I will never know. He could be dead today if not for the grace of God, or Luck, whichever you prefer. I have been Lucky with my time here, no attacks thus far. Then I get another phone call from my friend a software designer who was having lunch in a posh resturant in Poblado, while she enjoyed her glass of wine from out of nowhere a young Colombian male runs past the resturant and purse snatches her purse as she exits the place. She is also Lucky as she was unharmed, she is minus her valuables but she is alive to tell the story. I know you guys think this is no different than any American city, yes it could happen any where. Just be careful out there, this is still a Dangerous place. Where desperate people do desperate things.

Well here in the midwest in a peaceful Chicago suburb we just had 5 women lose there lives when an asshole tried to rob a womens clothing store. The idiot decides to rob the store on an early Sunday morning when there is NO money in the register yet. Flustered, he figures he can rob the 6 women in the store. So he duct tapes them and robs them. Then apparently he felt he could not leave any witnesses who have seen his face so he proceeds to shoot each woman in the head. Granted Cubanut makes a point about random violence. However there is no comparison between the states and Colombia. At this time of the year in Wisconsin, you have to worry more about the Ice cracking under your feet, in your hut while Ice fishing than being robbed or kidnapped. My question is why does it seem that the bystanders in Colombia do nothing about crime. I saw a guy bleeding from a stab wound in Cali in 2005. Nobody would help him, I at least tried to help him, just as the police were arriving. The Colombians just either stared for a brief moment and then walked away, or looked and did nothing. Is this the norm, or is it more a situation of life in Colombia?

We have to realize that this is Colombia. No amount of anything we have experienced in any part of the US will prepare us for life here.
But that does not just go for Colombia. With the economy doing so poorly in the US crime, muggings, jack, etc has been becoming more frequent, be alert always even in a vacation local but LIVE! Do not live to be mugged.
With economy doing poorly in the US that causes many other countries to follow and that means more crime in those areas.
Do no live as a Ostrich; LIVE but be alert to surroundings and watch your back.

As posted in the precedent story, I had discovered a 10 at Lindas Chicas (Calle 58 50A-54): Katherine.

What amazes me even more is that no Colombian seems to think that any law applies to him. There is a wide-spread lack of respect for law and order.
On the other hand, the anti-FARC demonstrations left me with some hope that Colombia is sick of this shit. And I have heard some very positive things said by university faculty members in Medellín concerning respect. Colombia may be moving in the right direction.
We have to realize that this is Colombia. No amount of anything we have experienced in any part of the US will prepare us for life here.

Like Jergens said, for the most part, the girls are HOT. But they tend to have stink attitudes. I have no experience with take-out, but on-premises P4p is decent if you're willing to pay the price for the convenience. Don't expect too much GFE from these girls. Hotel Intercontinental probably is the best in MDE. Stayed there a few times during the last years, now it is said to be fully renovated. If it meets your budget the only disadvantage is the location. You always need a taxi to get there, as it is in the upper part of El Poblado. Difficult to smuggle in girls, however, you can register them and that causes no problem.
In January I tried Hotel Estelar Poblado Alejandría, well located 5-7 min walking distance from CC Oviedo, just a bit upwards. It is quite new, more economic than Estelar Poblado Plaza, Dann Carlton or Interconti but still ok. Service was ok and they were chica friendly, too. Jacuzzi available on the terrasse on the upper floor with a great view on the town. Comparable with the Four Points close to CC Oviedo. Personally I liked more the Estelar Poblado Alejandría.
If you stay a week at least I recommend renting an apartment in El Poblado.

AMCapable of doing well with non-pros. I will guess that you guys are goodlooking and speak spanish. For some reason these type of guys don't do well here. I would highly recommend against ever bringing any regular Paisas to either The Mansion and/or El Castillo. With all due respect to Aussie Greg and The Mansion, but I would have to agree with Rainman here, and say NEVER, EVER bring a date back there.
I would highly recommend against ever bringing any regular Paisas to either The Mansion and/or El Castillo. I stayed at El Castillo and there were two guys running around the halls yelling, "*****s, *****s, where are you? " There were also a few guys who would walk out to the kitchen with a small towel wrapped around their waste, this does not look good if you bring a date back, especially at 1:00pm in the afternoon.
Also, many guys have NO RESPECT and will approach your date, check her out before asking you, or her, how much? The mentality there seems to be that "everyone is fair game. "
If you are a complete newbie in MDE, just there for the P$P scene, than I would highly recommend staying at The Mansion, otherwise I would suggest staying at ClubVIP Hotel or La Casa Medellin. I stayed at both hotels on my last trip and was happy to see it was not full of mongers, both hotels had a great mix of guests.Holy. I'm sure glad I stayed at VIP last time, because the guys there were gentlemanly and discreet about their pursuits. Castillo and Mansion always seem to attract those types.

Capable of doing well with non-pros. I will guess that you guys are goodlooking and speak spanish. For some reason these type of guys don't do well here. Maybe they don't understand the cultural needs of the Colombian girl. You want to sleep with them and they think of you as a future husband/boyfriend and don't want you to think they are a ****. I think its a little over the top. I plan on having some non pros come into my room. No need to wait outside rooms trying to get sloppy seconds. I do not care of the girl thinks I'm a monger or not. It doesn't seem to stop them from going to the Mansion. Some might ask questions but most don't and have never heard of it. I think it comes down to respect. I have been in these situtations many times and never 'cock block' a guy if a girl is hanging out with him. First I do not know if she is a non-pro. As I'm coming to Medellin soon I have been reading reports and am intrigued by these two places.
Firstly Can anyone tell me prices (mas o menos) for staying in both these places? Second, asumming I don't need my hand to be held (I can find places for p4p with the help of ISG and can negotiate with chicas despite my limited spanish), what is the advantage of staying here (beside free internet etc. I mean mongering wise)?
