What the hell is the story with change in this country? NOBODY seems to have more than 6 dollars in the till. Even hotels!

This seems to be a problem throughout much of Latin America, regardless of the currency: no change, especially with taxi drivers. For this reason, and also to get airline miles, I pay for everything I can with a credit card, no matter how small the amount, and I have a few small bills on hand for situations such as yours. If you were eating at a hotel restaurant, you surely could have used a credit card. This is a good way to forestall the problem.

I've put something about this before. There is a perpetual shortage of dollar bills. If they have change it will be in $1 coins. And I don't like waiting in the bars either, because it gets easy to forget you have change coming.

I usually go to the bank before I leave and get an envelope of $100 to $200 in one dollar bills. It makes things a lot easier and it's really appreciated.

I got into town last night and went to my hotel. Before sleep, I decided to get some food first in the hotel resturant. My bill was $7 and some change. I gave the waiter a $20 dollar bill, and he has no change. He asks everyone that wotrks there, and they also have no change. I had to go into my own small bills to pay for the meal.

Maybe they are afraid of getting robbed, so they do not keep anything around. I wonder if the banks have enough small bills to go around, or there is a national shortage?

I try to travel light these days, and not check any luggage. So I generally end up having some laundry done while on a trip. Do most of these economy hotels have a reasonable laundry, or are there ones nearby?

At least in Mariscal, there are plenty of them around.

Just put mine in for cleaning. 7 pairs of jeans, 6 shirts and other small stuff was $7.

For those that visit Guajira, make sure you have plenty of smaller change on you. They are not accepting $100 bills anymore. The owner says the bank puts up too much of a stink. If you're in and out quick I'm sure it won't be a problem, however, if you're like me and stick around a while... be prepared.

Not sure if Cafe Rojo is the using the same rule since it's the same owner...but I am assuming this is the case.

Hit NightKat with Christina from Guajira on Wednesday night. Got her out of Guajira for $0. No Salida. Got a free screw at my place later that night. Stayed with me and all day yesterday. She invited me to come with her to her cousin's birthday party --- read "House Party". Damn they know how to party here. Best day so far. Her aunt provided us with a bedroom to sleep in for the night...but it was too damn noisy. Left her there and hookin' up again this afteroon.

I really have no idea why anyone would pay $40 (or even $30) for a private show when you can pay $15 and get sex. That actually boggles my mind why someone would do that. I mean even if you don't want sex, can't you pay the $15 and then once in the room, just get the show. From what I understand the shows are for groups of guys who don't have enough money individually for sex, so they all chip in for a "show". And as for double pricing, they only charge you above the posted price if you let them, stick to your guns and pay the posted prices. Anyways, I'm probably not going back to Ecuador for a long time, so I'm not too concerned with the odd price increases. Besides, what do you expect from a chongo that is located across the street from a JW Marriott?

Yes..it is $15 for sex. $10 for the girl, $5 for the room according to the sign.

I pay for what I feel like at the time. I had already gotten laid earlier and simply wanted to play with her (in private). Yes, $15 for sex would be cheaper. Probably would have made more sense too. Who cares? Paying for one posted service or another is the decision of the person. Paying for a puta in the street might have been even cheaper.

The POSTED prices ARE for everybody. Guess who told me that? The entire staff, from the security guy upfront to the waiters to the bartenders to the girls. They were the ones to point it out to me.

Now if you want to pay more than the posted price, I'm more than sure they'll help to alleviate you of the $$$ difference. And yes, I did screw there for $15 upstairs, lasted somewhere between 15-30 mins. (Tip the lady who cleans up $2-3.)

Not sure what the $30 "show" is. If it ain't fucking or 2 chicks, it's a rip-off. They already have strip dances down in the main stage area for free.

Stop allowing folks to rip you off. These are reasons why prices suddenly go up.

I agree. However, it was several of those same staff members that stuck to the price. If you want the service and they're not budging, you have to pay it if you want the girl to go with you. At 3am, I am not in the mood to get started with a new chick at that point for TLN that I've already invested so much time and drinks in. I do walk away more frequently than not when that type of thing happens... but they were firm in their price. Some of those guys can be real pricks.

yup. prices are posted but are not for us apparently. I havent tried the $15 sex yet. I went for the $30 show that was $40.

If you want anything private, you walk back out the front door and go next door and upstairs to where they have rooms.

sounds like a gringo tax to me. I havent heard of any price increases here more than a buck or two at my regular spots Then again theres gonna be a congressional election here in september and if the prez supporters gets control of congress, i think EC is gonna go in the crapper pretty damn fast.

Guys if you want lapdances go to cafe rojo, they're $20 same for sex and the chicas are alot better looking and actually know how to do a strip show if thats your thing.

Well something has changed thats for sure. I think I was the first one to post about nightcats to famed board member "ezinho" . I could be wrong but regardless I remember seeing that exact same sign($15) behind the bar and that being the set price. There used to be a guy named "gabriel" that worked there and was very friendly. Things change I guess but I certainly wouldn't support that kind of place. As I've said before I wasn't crazy about the service I recieved in ecuador. There were tons of places but yet I was still craving good sex.

If your into lap dances save the airfare and stay in the states. I only support debauchery.

I checked back on my posts from early 2006 and yes you're right, you were the one that mentioned Nightcats to me, looks like in January 2006 I paid $20 for 30 min. sex, it was $12 for the putita and $8 for the room. Then when I went back earlier this year they had reduced the price for sex to $15. There was a $7 entry fee, but that included two Cuba Libres. If I remember correctly you could haggle the entry down to $3 which included just one drink, but that really depended on who was working the door that night. One bouncer was a nice guy, but there was another dude working the door one time that was a real dick and wouldn't negotiate. Also wanted a tip when I left, for what I still don't know.
