Arrived in Bangkok two nights ago and staying at Ruamchitt Hotel right above Thermae. I picked Ruamchitt not because of Thermae but because I got a great price and it is one of the few budget hotels in Sukhumvit with a great swimming pool. Picked up two different mid-20's girls outside Thermae on both nights as I did not see anything I like inside Thermae. On the first night around 1:30 AM, the girl asked for 2 k. I countered with 1. 5 k and she readily agreed. On the second night (tonight) at 11 PM, I immediately told the girl 1. 5 k. She countered with 2 k but caved in to 1. 5 k. Both sessions were good but not super good so I did not tip them.

There's at least a hundred girls inside and outside Thermae. Competition is keen. Girls will take 1. 5 k. Let the Koreans overpay. The rest of us stick together.

Just to clarify, are you saying the two girls you picked up directly outside of Thermae would have easily fit in among the better looking girls inside Thermae and were in fact notably better looking to you than any or most of the 100 or so girls you saw inside and that's why you took them instead of anyone inside? And those girls accepted 1,500 baht with little negotiation?

Of course, it has often been acknowledged that almost any girl inside Thermae will go for less if she moves her wares outside to the street. So this is an interesting direct Inside/Outside comparison report.

Do you have any idea why those presumably better looking than most girls were standing outside of Thermae where even they would know their getting price would likely be less instead of staying inside Thermae where they would almost certainly get more (if chosen)? Also, it sounds like they provided nothing better than a basic, no frills, standard, safe and passable service level for that 1,500 baht. Or am I misreading and understating it?

It's great that you are able to find nice looking girl for like 1.5 k baht right in front of Thermae. Whereas most ask for 2.5 k.

If by ++ you mean the check bin total contains an extra (service and/or sales tax or whatever) then Monsoon does in fact add on a % to the menu prices. I can't recall how much this is, but it is the only gripe I would have with this place.

The food is consistently good and the kitchen is well run. Service can be a bit variable though but always friendly. It's always busy, which is a good sign and the bar or outside terrace are good places for relaxing and people watching too.

I bow to your knowledge on this if you have been there more recently than I have. And I might be thinking of another of the same owner's restaurants on Soi 8, Viva, which seemed not to include a 10% Service Charge on their food for a very long time. Maybe they do now though. Could have sworn Monsoon didn't either, but it has been a few weeks since I've been there. Their Chipotle Chicken Taco Salad is another favorite there.

Last weekend, after a late dinner I went to cowboy. It was around 11 so girls were aggressive to pull you in, punters were going out with girls they bar fined. Started with 1 beer at spice girls. Quality was quite mix, ranging from 4-8. After that went to shark and quality was much better. But what I hate about shark is, that they put way too many girls on stage. It's hard to see them sometimes. But anyways I always find someone there to buy drinks for. I feel the same way. So here is what I do when I want a good quality beef steak "fix" for less than 500 baht at ground zero for the red light district in Bangkok. You might give it a try sometime.

I try not to eat around the red light district, so my meals are always cheaper and better. But, between Soi 1 and Asoke:

Monsoon isn't bad. Kiwi makes a nice steak sarnie. Margarita storm has fab Tex Mex. Bamboo has wonderful lamb chops and salad. Argo is good Greek / Georgian. Pizza whatever under the BTS is OK. Arnos is good but spendy. The hotel buffets are great when you use eatigo.

Here, for you tourists: hungry nerd at rachethewi has great pork chops. JCafe in phra khanong has fab steaks super cheap. Bad burger in Asoke is excellent. Fogo de Asia in phrom pong is great meat and decent price if you use eatigo. Azzuro in phra khanong is five star Italian, cheap. Spasso is great but will destroy your wallet. So will the Swiss joint. So will bei. The beer garden food is actually OK and OK priced.

The possible downsides for some are that Monsoon does not serve baked potatoes, only mashed, au gratin or french fries and they have no steak sauce on hand, only ketchup. So if you are into A1 Sauce or whatever you'll need to smuggle in a bottle of your own (no corkage fee that I know of) or tuck a small zip lock bag of it in your pocket from your stash at home.

Thanks sounds like a good tip. I can compare to what I get in a Sports bar. I don't need the A1 or Ketchup, and actually being a low carbs person, I don't even need the potato. I might do a side of cooked onions or mushrooms, depending what they have.

I have seen some incredibly expensive steak houses in Bangkok with steaks into the thousands of Bahts. Personally I prefer to eat a Steak for well under 1 K and save the rest for hot girls, but each to their own preference. Whatever turns you on. Go crazy on high fibre veg, is my motto. Ha ha.

I go to Monsoon on Soi 8, order their steak salad and add a side dish of mashed or au gratin potatoes. I realize the idea of "steak salad" does not sound like it fits the goal here. But it is the exact same good quality Aussie beef they serve for their 750 baht steak dinner (also good), is cooked to your specifications same as that one and the beef is served hot. It is a smaller portion than you get with the full steak dinner but is plenty of meat for me and is sliced, not too thinly, in chunks big enough that I still have to cut smaller pieces to fit in my mouth for a normal sized bite.

Now, the steak chunks and strips are also covered with delicious melted cheese, so you might want to ask them to skip that, don't know. The steak will be served on top of a generous and very good mixed lettuce and small veggie salad.

I simply transfer the steak part onto a side dish along with the mashed or au gratin potatoes and there is my good quality steak, potatoes, salad/veggie, (included) garlic bread and (included) onion rings dinner for under 500 baht.

I partake at oilies and very rarely soi 4. I would venture to say the Viets on soi 4 at present will be far better looking than what you see in the discos these days. And they're 2 k st.
