Yes, a lot of trial and errors. That's why I like to stay several days: I have the opportunity to risk aiming high, maybe fail, but also score some memorable experiences.

Batam can be very easy: just go to massage places that actually are brothels. Pick a girl and have your short time or even book a lady overnight. I seldom go to those places, because I like hunting for the GF experience. Took a stroll last night around 10:30-11 down Jin Bukit Bintang from the southwest up to Changkat Bukit Bintang and then headed northeast all the way to the Havana Bar & Grill. Dozens of street walkers saying Hello, to me and asking me if I wanted sex. They were mixed in with all the touts holding menus for the massage parlors asking me if I wanted a massage. Several girls holding massage menus on Jin Bukit Bintang offering sexual services at their massage parlors as well. If I had to guess I would say 60-80 girls working the streets along the red line I drew on the map. No idea what the action was like later, or what the action was like inside any of the businesses. I stopped and grabbed a bite to eat and headed back to my hotel to sleep.

What time of the day the freelancers are present there?

Two nights ago, walking around Changkat BB trying to find a girl for overnight fun. Just a FYI, the rate for that is about RM $600-1000 for 6-8 hours. Don't pay more than that. Even the online escort agency charges about the same. Plus these street freelancers gets a bigger cut without working for the agency. So there are always room to negotiate. I heard from some of the working girls on the street whispering about this place call Hive bar and K bar which is located about 10 min grab ride from Changkat. So I decided to give it a go. Once I got there, I noticed quite a few freelancers, hot looking ones hanging out inside and outside those bars there from 8 pm to maybe 1-2 am. Got a girl for overnight 8 hours there for about 800 and she is hot looking, wearing a tight skimpy dress. She looks like a local mix with a good command of English. Took her back to my 5 star hotel and bang the shit out of her. For merely $RM100 more I got so many extras that night. Not going to say what, but will leave that to your imagination.

The location of these bars (Kbar, Kuna, The China Bar, highball and many others) are cross street of Jln Tun Razak and Jln Kampung Pandan. The GPS coordinates is 3.1404939656086768, 101.72100771158667. Hope this helps. Just letting my brothers here know about another good location to hunt besides the regular Changkat and Bukit Bintang strip.

Instead, I'd just go to the Changkat bars by the old Soleil Hotel and find a freelancer for 400-600 MYR where it's infinitely easier to seal a deal.
One final note: I don't consider KL to be a dangerous city, but ACE is located in an area which I would prefer to not venture to after dark. It's located in a pretty out of the way place and the walk from the Pudu metro station is long and devoid of other pedestrians.
